| Pito King For A Couple Of Days  Age: 104 Gender: Male Posts: 2430 | sorry if this is a duplicate. Pearl Jam was a band that started back in like '90 or something. They never thought they'd hit it big. Their first three albums (Ten, Vs., Vitalogy) are considered by many to be the most influential rock albums of the 90's. Ten, selling 12 million copies and becoming one of the best selling rock albums, dealt with many dark topics, such as death, suicide, and murder. Vs. sold over 950,000 within the first five days, setting (and still holding) the record for most albums sold in five days. It's songs are fit with the title, as the topics are conflicts, such as rape, child abuse, and police brutality. Vitalogy marked a turning point in the band's career. Instead of more anthem arena sounds like Ten, and raw metal sounds like Vs., the band decided to make a more bumpy ride, as more punk influences can be found within the songs. The album had more smaller, often considired experimental tracks that would disrupte the flow of the album, and a few of the songs were about how the band hated their fame (Not For You even said FUCK YOU to the people who were listening to them just because they were popular). By the time they released No Code, PJ went from the most popular band of the 90's, to an underground band. No Code hit #1 on the charts, but soon fell drasticly. It only reached 1 million, becoming PJ's least sold album (at the time). The album seemed to prefer slow acoustic ballads, eastern influences, and noisy garage rockers. Yield was the first album not to hit #1, and quickly fell down the charts (although it would eventually sell more than No Code). It returned to the straight-forward rock sound of the older albums, although it was a bit more exhausting to listen to. Binaural would become the first PJ album not to sell more than 1 million (selling 700,000). This is considered by many to be the most depressing album by the group. Riot Act is PJ's least selling album (only selling 500,000). This seemed to include more folk based songs. PJ's latest self-tilted album is considered to be PJ's return to the old rock antics. The main theme of this is War, Politics, and the death of a friend (Johnny Ramone). To this day, PJ is considered to be the most influential rock band of the 90's and 21st century. I adore Pearl Jam,I started listening to them just a few mounths ago and they are already one of my favorite bands. Eddie is a really good vocalist and lyricist. They have also managed to be around for a while and still be good,alot of bands start to suck when they get older but Pearl Jam is still great  |
