I thought this would be funny.
Argument side 1:
Jam:
Studies have shown that plants recoil from injurious sensations. It has been explained that plants can differentiate between harmless contact, say raindrops and the touch of an insect. Not only that, but plants can repair their own wounds. Plants do have a nerve structure, but very different to ours.
Plants thrive when they're “happy” and wither when their not. They like certain environments, they get sick, they have needs ect. They have physical emotion.
Argument side 2:
Plants don't get 'happy'. They don't 'like' to live in certain environments, they have no choice. There is no 'liking' about it, plants are limited by their adaptattions and if they don't have the right conditions they cannot function and will die. This is down to need for survival, not plants thinking "Oooh, soil of pH 7. Cosy (h)"
Besides, plants have no brains, how do you propose they think, let alone feel emotion?
The question is. Do plants feel emotion or not?
Go.

Yeah, I dont really think plants have real emotions e_e [dont know how that goes] I mean, your right the have no brain, so maybe its a differnt level of emotion. idk, but i heard if you talk to your plant they'll get happy and grow. :/

Sooooo, since animals have emotions aswell [it would be bad to kill them for food] and plants have emotions [it would also be bad to kill them for food]
Or is it just that plants dont have big ole' eyes that can stare back at you?

They're called Bleeding Hearts, I have some in my back yard. Looks like a pretty "emo" plant to me. OHSNAP.
I am fully aware that "emo" does not stand for "emotional"

Well you know that plants grow better when you sing to them or play music so maybe there is something about it. But I am not sure about real emotions, I mean emotions are complex.

If this turns out to be true, what are the vegans going to eat?
I remember seeing something on the news (maybe) the other night about a scientific investigation determining that plants can actually distinguish between siblings and non-siblings. When non-biologically related plants were introduced to biologically-related plants the biologically-related plants root growth expanded so much the non-related plants began to deteriorate. So if they can determine realtives and non-relatives could they feel injuries? Probably not in the sense we do, but they must do on some level. When a tree is injured, sap leaches out, cleaning the "wound" and dries much like human blood does. And yes some plants respond better to some forms of music than others. i guess we just can't really explain it al yet.

Vegan by definition is just someone who doesn't eat or use animal products..so they would still be able to eat plants even if they had emotions, that doesn't violate any ~ vegan rules ~. It would only affect someones diet if they didn't want to eat things with emotions.

I thought that the whole singing deal was down to exhaling carbon dioxide.
When you sing or play an instrument that you blow into (like a flute) around a plant, you increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the air meaning it can respire more effectively and then grow better.

But I played The Clash to my plant from my CD player [that wasn't near and it doesn't blow so the carbon-dioxide thing doesn't apply here] and my plant grew and she was more colourful. And more punk-rock tbh
