Batfreak King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: - Gender: - Posts: 3336 ![]() | It's illegal for women to be a Navy Seal? Can anyone that has any information about this explain WHY it's against the law for a woman to be a Seal? I honestly didn't like being told this... I wanted to be a Seal, but I was told no because I'm a woman and it's against the law.... |
Kristmas_Tsanne Great Success! ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Male Posts: 59161 ![]() | this was the most reasonable answer I could find when googling: "Females are not allowed to be navy seals. In the past the navy has in fact experimented in allowing females to undergo Navy Seal Training. The training was identical, but the women did not train together with the man. I believe that it was in a different facility alltogether. I was in Boot camp in Orlando, and this one female Naval Office came and get us a pep talk. She was maybe one of the few females (probably less than 5) that have actually undergone Navy Seal training as an experiment back in the 80's. She passed her training. The Navy then reconsidered becauseL 1. of the feasibility of findng comparable females with similar physical activity backgrounds (she was a superior athelete). 2. the amount of money it was going to take to develope an entire facility only for women undergoing navy seal training. 3. the future benefits and undergoing such a dramatic cost. Basically, what were the benefits of training a woman as a navy seal, if women were still not allowed to be in combat." source Most of the answers I found was "because they're not as strong", "because what about periods and bras breaking" ... which, tbh is bullshit in my head. I mean, sure, I don't think they should make special rules for women, but if a woman can honestly get through the training that was designed for any other navy seal (male), then seriously, why the hell not? And in the first answer, the one i found on google, i mean.. what new facilities? I mean if a supposedly tiny amount of women will go through the training, why not just give them separate changing rooms and let them train with the rest? That's being equal. |
Ensiferum Jackass ![]() Age: 29 Gender: Female Posts: 1694 ![]() | I agree with the last paragraph of the post above. My friend who's interested in this stuff has very strong opinions on this. They say that women arn't as physically strong and mentally capable, but that's stereotypical. Women wouldn't sign up to go through these things if they didn't believe that they were capable of getting through it. They should treat both genders equally. |
Squid. King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 2940 ![]() | Maybe girl's get raped more offten when they were aloud in the Navy? So they decided to stop it. That's a bit out there, but I wouldn't doubt it. |
Kristmas_Tsanne Great Success! ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Male Posts: 59161 ![]() | Squid.:are you basing that on anything at all or is it just a wild guess? i mean.. what does rape have to do with this? I mean if it was a genuine problem, okay, but if it hasn't happened, there's no reason to make that an issue ![]() |
the libertines. Geek ![]() Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 278 | ocean avenue:This. And surely it should still be the woman's choice whether she wants to put herself through it despite the risks. |
Squid. King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 2940 ![]() | ocean avenue: It was just random, because I heard something about that somewhere at some time. lol. And I figured that I would just throw that out there. I guess I'd say that me saying that is really just an issue that should be discussed sperately from this one, because rape happens in all branches of the Army, not just the Navy, and it isn't only women who are in the Navy or anthing like that...it's just a problem that needs to be better dealt with I suppose. Eh, sorry. |
Jesse Lacey Post Whore ![]() Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 23946 ![]() ![]() | seperate facilities? basic training for the army is both sexes in one place. ait is the same way. i don't understand. |
JOOLS Addict ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 11676 ![]() ![]() | I wrote a persuasive paper about a year ago on why women should have to sign up for the draft... In my memory, I recall reading something about how it was unsafe for women to be on submarines b/c the technology was harmful to their reproductive organs (I guess not the males' though?). I can't give you a source, or say that this is still true today, but it's just something that I remember seeing. I don't even know if it's proven. Which... submarines would be related to a Navy Seal, right? God, I feel like a derp for asking... but I'd feel like a bigger derp if submarines did not pertain to this at all ![]() |
Batfreak King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: - Gender: - Posts: 3336 ![]() | I was told by my friend (who's mom was in the military) that it's unsafe 'cause if a woman is on the battlefield and gets injured, but it's not lethal, and a man gets injured, but it is lethal, the medics will still go to the woman first 'cause they (and I quote my friend) "have less of a chance living then men." |

toybox trash Jackass ![]() Age: 29 Gender: Female Posts: 1364 | Actually, I heard a whole different reason about this from my mom's best friend's husband who is a petty officer first class, which outranks just about any navy official you meet unless they're a captain. He told me the reason women can't be a navy seal is because its every man for their self basically when it comes to that. They are out to kill people and when a woman is in trouble, a man will do anything to help the woman and when they need to and have to move on they will stop to help the woman because its in their blood. That's what I was told. I don't know that its the exact reason. |
Kristmas_Tsanne Great Success! ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Male Posts: 59161 ![]() | ^Sorry, but that's dumb. idk it's like the whole burka-discussion, like Muslim men can't handle seeing a woman's hair, and that women who don't wear burkas or cover their hair are sluts.. Like i get modesty, but it's just so stupid to generalize and say that men will help a woman more than a man, it's sexist. I'll repeat myself and say that if a woman can handle the same training as a man can, with out special help or shit, then i don't get it. If there are so few women who can actually do it, too, then what is the problem omg |
toybox trash Jackass ![]() Age: 29 Gender: Female Posts: 1364 | Well I didn't say if it was the exact reason or that I agreed with it. It's just what I was told by a navy officer. So if it's not true, my bad for saying what was explained to me about it. |
Kristmas_Tsanne Great Success! ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Male Posts: 59161 ![]() | Oh, its not a criticism towards you, I'm sorry if it came out that way What I meant is that even if that's the way this man feels, and how a lot of navy-people feel/think ... well I don't agree xD |
toybox trash Jackass ![]() Age: 29 Gender: Female Posts: 1364 | Lol it's cool. And I don't know about it either. I think it makes sense to an extant but I think it goes too far as well with the whole man needing to save a woman thing. |
Mareh King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 4222 ![]() | As a man, I can say that if a woman is in trouble the majority of men would stop to help her, no matter what the situation. |
NIK JONUTZ Moderator ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 24429 ![]() | Mareh.:yeah that's what i thought |
