You may remember a couple of months ago (actually more than a couple of months) I submitted some poems to a few poetry magazines. Well, I got a reply off one of them today after ages. They want to publish TWO of my poems! Woop!
Anyway, back to the poetry.
This one is dedicated to my parents in the hoped that they'll work it out.
Waking up to twelve p.m sunbeam alarms across my pillowcase.
Wiping yesterday's eyeliner from beneath sleepless eyes
but leaving last night's smile dozing upon my face.
This is the only time that I've ever played insomniac
just to keep laughing at jokes that are as worn down
as the patches on my knees. Ripped jeans, broken seams.
I'm so tired of grovelling when all I recieve are shards
of stapled dreams that tear every time I fall asleep.
Every superstitious fool must be laughing at me now.
Making vows for eternity but drying tears on the back of them.
I've cried so many emotions free that all I have left are smiles.
"I'm not laughing at you, darling. I'm just trying to understand."
Hand-me-down heartbeats were never a best-seller on E-bay but
I was hoping that you'd take them anyway to be my sentimental fool.
"I've got to lose them somehow, sweetheart. I'm begging you."
I'm living on home-made promises that life will get better
when they can get broken just as easily as jealous hearts.
I only wanted you so that I could control you but my insistence
doesn't over-ride resistence so, honey, I'm sorry but I quit.
The telephone makes for boring conversation now when it isn't
ringing; repercussions for putting you through to my answering
machine because I've run out of all my lovingly doting replies.
I'm pretending that I don't care just to see if you do.
Possessively aggressive and dismissively affectionate,
I rest my head against the windowsill to see your reflections.
You're telling me that you love me but I'm already asleep. |
