steady riot. King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 2907 | If this gets locked, so be it. I just want to get this message out about Darfur. Not many people are aware of what is going on. The ongoing genocide in the Darfur region of western Sudan, which has continued since 2003, is fueled primarily by the Janjaweed, a government-supported militia recruited from local Arab tribes. The genocide in Darfur has claimed 400,000 lives and displaced over 2,500,000 people. More than one hundred people continue to die each day; five thousand die every month. About the size of Texas, the Darfur region is home to racially mixed tribes of settled peasants, who identify as African, and nomadic herders, who identify as Arab. The majority of people in both groups are Muslim. Government neglect has left people throughout Sudan poor and voiceless and has caused conflict throughout the country. In February 2003, frustrated by poverty and neglect, two Darfurian rebel groups launched an uprising against the Khartoum government. The government responded with a scorched-earth campaign, enlisting the help of a militia of Arab nomadic tribes in the region against the innocent civilians of Darfur. Since February 2003, the Sudanese government in Khartoum and the government-sponsored Janjaweed militia have used rape, displacement, organized starvation, threats against aid workers and mass murder to kill more than 400,000 and displace almost 2.5 million people. Violence, disease, and displacement continue to kill thousands of innocent Darfurians every month. Many people are saying just let it be. It'll come to end eventually. Do you agree with this? Should we save Darfur, when we have issues of our own, going on in our own country? Or should we just sit back, while thousands and thousands of innocent people- many young children- are being killed, raped, and displaced? Or take a stand, and do what we can to end this once and for all? I think this is a dreadful thing that is happening in our world. It saddens me to know that each day, innocent people are dying for no reason. http://millionvoicesfordarfur.org/ Go there and send a post card to President Bush, and voice your opinion. Decpite if you're not American. Links: http://www.genocideintervention.net/index.php http://www.savedarfur.org/home |

I mean how can this being going on yet most of the country has no idea. Someone in my school was talking about rasing money and awarness and most people were asking "whats genocide?" "is Darfur a person or a gun?" Its sad how little most of the world knows about this tragic event |

Mycophobia Basket Case ![]() Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 15581 ![]() | Dita.Von.Teese.: I know! its really annoying how all of world leaders are so worried about stupid issues in there own country that are not even killing people instead of stopping this. I dont think we sould wait for congress beacuase they might never do anything, i think we have to get everyday people to help out. |
