LiamIsn'tOnFire. Idiot ![]() Age: 36 Gender: Male Posts: 681 | ~tre's_lost_nut~: There isn't anything that says you should use a set finger for a set string. It's all about what feels comfortable for you. You just have to experiment with the riff and see what makes you feel comfortable. For example I was playing Hysteria by Muse earlier this week and for some reason, tried playing a couple of the higher notes with a different finger. It was more comfortable - I do it all the time now. It's all individual style and preference, and if you can play American Idiot straight off like that, you'll make a damn good bassist. ![]() Are you playing with a plectrum or your fingers? |
Dom Jackass ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Male Posts: 1691 | Robbie: hendrix was self taught..and angus young uses an unorthodox way of holding his pick. So its not entirely true. |
Robbie Falling In Love With The Board ![]() Age: 34 Gender: Male Posts: 9947 | Dom: Hendrix did not develop his technique by sitting in his room playing tabs, and he did not get that chordal knowledge on his own. Having lessons/guidance from an experienced friend helps but 95% of people will suck and quite after a year if they just try and play tabs. Unorthodox doesn't mean bad. Young might have developed his own technique but there are very few ways to hold a pick. |
DudeO King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: 31 Gender: Male Posts: 2543 ![]() | I taught myself bass. Without a book. I just looked up tab. But I'm saving up for a book- I would suggest getting both a beginners book, the second book, and then a more complex book once you get most of the stuff. |
Protest the Hero. Falling In Love With The Board ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Male Posts: 6048 | If I ever get a bass, I wouldn't need to be taught. If you can play guitar, bass is pretty much the same thing. If you can play guitar and have never even touched a bass, no doubt, if you were given tabs, you'd be playing bass great in no time. Hey, I get all of my guitar music by just strumming, and the songs always turn out great. You could do the same for bass. |
the new pollution. Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie ![]() Age: - Gender: - Posts: 18 | I'm self taught, but I had six or so years of guitar behind me. It's not complex at all, but if you do teach yourself bass, learn to read sheet music instead of just tabs. |
Angelic Fruitcake Falling In Love With The Board ![]() Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 6362 | I taught myself bass, but ive only been playing for about 5 months, so I dont know if id be much help. Either way, I used the "Absolute beginers" books at the very start. They're pretty good. After that though, I did a whole lot of different things..not very helpful, sorry. :/ |
High Fidelity Falling In Love With The Board ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 7797 | Learn how to read tabs. It'll help you a lot when getting started. I'd also recommend learning where notes are on the bass. It'll help a lot when you're tabbing on your own. I don't know of any books, but I hope what I said helped some. ![]() |
