The lead singer of Australian rock group Grinspoon, Phil Jamieson, is undergoing a six-week rehabilitation program to seek treatment for addiction to the drug 'ice'.
Jamieson is in Sydney ahead of the birth of his second child.
The band's manager, Gregg Donovan, said in a short statement posted on the group's website that everybody in the Grinspoon camp and his family were very supportive of Phil's decision to check himself into rehab.
"[We] can't wait to have him back on board for the next phase of the band's career and his life. No more statements will be issued."
Drug Arm's Dennis Young says addiction to methamphetamines is widespread, but he hopes the singer's decision will inspire others.
"It shows young people these type of activities can lead to serious consequences, and I think that's a positive move," he said.
"The other thing to come out of it is that he's prepared to stand up and say he's got a problem and he's prepared to go and seek help." |
