Miley Cyrus Basket Case ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 15185 ![]() | tbh if i saw a picture of a really hot half-naked guy on the cover or whatever i'd probably be like o hey and pick it up magazines are designed to sell themselves... sex sells. |
Kurtni Admin ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 34289 ![]() ![]() | I don't really think its fair to call it sexual discrimination either... perhaps sexual exploitation, but I don't consider sexual advertisement discriminatory. |
Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | How about the clear abundance of reoccurring homosexual men in today's television shows compared with no reoccurring homosexual women characters in any current television series. I don't know if that's completely true, but upon first thought it does sound acurate, I can name several gay charaters from many current shows, but no lesbians come to mind at all. So, is it gender discrimination even if it is at least accepting of sexual preference. |
Kurtni Admin ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 34289 ![]() ![]() | Anji: Will and Grace had(or has, I don't know if that show is on anymore) both. ![]() |

Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | ocean avenue:But not a television series. She's herself, it doesn't count. |
Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | Kurtni:If it's not on anymore...yeah, it isn't, the characters don't count. Like Carol from Friends doesn't count. It's showing a timeline in the amount of lesbian and gay characters. |
Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | Boobmeister:Are they recurring characters? If so then the source is incorrect, but I still see what it's saying, the amount of gay men has dramatically increased where as gay women are not so prominent. I can't remember what the source was, but it could be based on specific channels or television shows with the highest ratings, which is maybe why that was excluded. |
Chile D. Guy Basket Case ![]() Age: 34 Gender: Male Posts: 15969 | Interesting discussion. Well, here in my city there's a woman that works on strip-tease bars and explicit sex shows. She already made a legend of herself doing these kind of things. At the moment she's running for a slot at the municipal council. Guess how she gains the trustiness of the constituency? Exactly, by wearing the less clothes as one can wear and going to the debates like this. And some other publical appearances too, like soccer stadiums, and even the proposal airings on TV. And she has a great chance on being actually elected, as the recent polls point so. Posts ago pretty much resume my opinion: Sex and erotism in general sells well. Magazines, public appearances...most media approves, in a certain way, the excessive exhibition of a human being in order to attract the attention of readers, spectators and such. On the other hand, media bashes whoever does it, sometimes. Magazines like Playboy are there to show a more 'artistical' side of the nudity, at least that's what I was taught too. Nobody (I mean, several men who buy this kind of things) even bothers to read the articles inserted on the magazine, they just go for the photoshooting and such. Even porn magazines have their articles (related to sex, obviously). I don't know if the context of media discriminating some celebrities who unwittingly showed an umproper part of their bodies (i.e. Janet Jackson at a Super Bowl Halftime Show) can be inserted in the discussion. I hope you understood the point. |
cabot gal GSBitch ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 76863 ![]() | Anji:The L Word is about the lives and relationships of lesbians so yeah, they're the same characters throughout the series ![]() |
Jesse Lacey Post Whore ![]() Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 23946 ![]() ![]() | StephI know this is late but, hey, who cares? It's on topic at least. But, I'd like to know why it's not okay for regular people to be in Axe commercials but Green Day can be and you don't care. They're men. |
Kristmas_Tsanne Great Success! ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Male Posts: 59161 ![]() | Anji:Yes, a television series. Actually two. Then towards the end, the character she was playing came out, and so did the real Ellen. |
Olivia Wilde. Addict ![]() Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 11895 ![]() | Over here, they have a station called LOGO which shows lesbian and gay shows. |
Ol' Blue Eyes. King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 4816 ![]() | Jesse Spencer.:I know what you're tlaking about, that's the station upon which I watch The L Word. There are (were?) quite a few lesbian characters featured on the BBC station. I tend to think it's a societal thing. It's easier for people to stomach gay men when they're used as comic relief in sitcoms, which is where I've seen them the most, as opposed to woman. |
paper shoes This Board Is My Home ![]() Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 34269 | idk maybe I look at the wrong magazines but woman magazines rarely have half naked guys on them, they're always photoshopped women in tiny dresses not that having naked men on womens mags would make it all okay idk I hate it how the media is using sex to sell everything including CARPETS. nope, cant sell a carpet without a picture of a naked woman on it. sex should be left alone by the media, it disgusts me that something that should only be for two people (or more, gangbangs ftw) is being used like this. the human body should be about love and not ''this bitch is fit'' idk |
+_Pledged_+ Idiot ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 959 | I think women [and men, for that metter] get exploited in the media all the time. It sucks, but it happens. |
