Another Person Who Understands Me, chapter 1

I couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't deal with my perfect sister and everyone expecting me to be just like her. I couldn't deal with my other sister who was such a disappointment, yet everyone understood her troubles. I was sick and tired of everyone expecting me to be someone I'm not. The only person I could talk to was dead...My brother who overdosed. So I ran. It was pouring rain, but I didn't care. I didn't care because I knew nobody cared about me. I had ran at least a couple miles before I finally broke down. I sat on the side of the road and pulled my knees up to my chest. I knew nobody was coming for me, and nobody in their right mind would be driving this late, with this kind of storm going on. But I was wrong.

An old green Cadillac pulled over. I could tell there were a couple people in the car, and one of them in the backseat got out. He came over and squatted down next to me.
"Hey..what are you doing on the side of the road in this kind of storm? You could get sick or raped or something..."
When I looked up into his face I saw a pair of light blue eyes filled with concern. He was holding a blanket and he started to put it around my shoulders as he said, "I know this is kinda weird...But I know you..You probably don't know me, but we have a couple classes together. If you want you can come hang out with me and my friends. By the way..I'm Mike." I looked up at him and nodded. He helped me up off the ground, and led me over to the car.

Once Mike and I were inside the car, I noticed there were two more people in the front seat.
The guy in the driver's seat turned around and said, "Hey, my name's Billie Joe, and this weirdo is Tre," he said pointing to the guy sitting in the passenger's seat.
"Yep, that's me," he said with a slight wave. I felt a little bad that I was dripping all over the seat, but the car looked a little beat up anyways.
As Mike got in the car and closed the door, Billie started up the ignition and said, "So, what's your name?"
I looked down at my hands and responded, "Uh..Michelle," I knew I sounded like an idiot. Having to pause when answering my own name..But it had been a while since anyone had actually took an interest in me.

I was fidgeting nervously with my ring, when Mike looked over and said, "How come you were out there in the rain all by yourself?"
I didn't want to answer him..I shrugged and looked out the window replying quietly, "I dunno..family stuff." I always hated talking about my family. It always ended up with people feeling bad for me, and I couldn't stand it.
Mike said, "Oh I'm sorry," and as I looked over at him, I could see sympathy in his eyes. I hated it, so I looked out the window.

I could still feel his eyes boring into the back of my head and it was making me kind of uncomfortable. At once I started thinking about how horrible I must look, so I glanced at the rearview mirror and started trying to fix my hair. It, as well as my clothes, were completely drenched and clinging to my face and my body. I pulled my long black hair into a ponytail as best as I could with the rubberband on my wrist. Just as I was going back to staring out the window, I saw Tre look back and start watching Mike, who was still watching me.

He stared for a few more moments, then turned back into his seat, and whispered something to Billie Joe. When he was done, Billie looked into the rearview mirror and saw what Tre had saw; Mike staring at me. He nodded to Tre, who again turned around.
"Hey, Mike, whatcha starin' at?" he asked with a crazy smile. At first Mike didn't answer, until Tre spit his gum out at him, which hit him square in the face.
At once Mike snapped back to attention and said, "Huh? What? Did you say something? EW! Was that gum?"
Again, Tre repeated his question. Although it was dark in the car, I could see Mike blushing a bit.
"Uh..er..ah..nothing..Just looking out the window." I heard Tre and Billie snicker, but they didn't say anything else.

To break the silence I finally said, "So..where are we going?"
Tre turned around again and I saw his face light up. "To this fucking kick ass bar!" he yelled. I was a little taken aback because I hadn't seen him this hyper. He started bouncing up and down in his seat. Then Mike turned to me and said, "Unless you have to be home by a certain time, then we can just take you back now or in a bit..The place isn't too far."
I laughed silently. "Yeah right..My parents don't give a fucking shit about me..Just my grades..They wouldn't notice if I was gone a straight week, just as long as all my fucking progress reports come back good." Now it was Mike's turn to be taken aback. I had hardly said anything the whole ride, and to just have a sudden outburst like that made him give me a strange look. But I didn't really mind.

About 10 minutes later we arrived at the bar. There was a large neon sign that said "Jackie's Bar And Steakhouse...Everything You Want To Eat And More". A couple of the neon letters were burnt out. The place looked a little shabby from the outside, but what did I care?
Billie Joe parked the car and slid the keys out of the ignition. "Well..here we are," he said with a grin.
I went to open the door, but Mike quickly said, "No wait! Let me get it." He jumped out of the car and rushed over to my door and opened it. Then he took off his leather jacket and held it over my head. I heard Billie Joe and Tre mutter something to each other about 'pansy' and 'what a flirt' but I didn't pay any attention. For once a guy, for that matter, a HOT guy, was paying attention to me. As he held the coat over my head and we walked towards the entrance I saw nice muscles on his arms. 'Hmm..he must play guitar or bass...My brother had those same muscles.'

As he pushed open the bar door, I wondered what would happen next...Little did I know I had finally found someone I could trust and who could understand me even better than my brother.
