Nearing Closer, chapter 1

I knew it was wrong.
I knew it was wrong to be cheating on Adrienne like I did.
Like I am.
I knew she suspected I was up to something.
But she couldn't find out.

I was later than ususal getting home that night. I glanced at my watch. 2 in the morning. I was out of excuses. I parked the car in the driveway, and took my time tuning it off. I slowly got out of the car and made my way up to the front door. I loved Adrienne with all my heart. I really did. It's just that I love Samantha the same.
I was afraid to lose either of them.

I was wondering what the excuse was going to be tonight
I knew that he was here.
I heard the car.
I heard his footsteps coming closer.
Until the door finally opened, and there he stood.

I took in every detail of him. His hair was more messed up than usual. He looked worn out. His shirt looked as if it had just been thrown on.
"Where have you been?" I asked him as calmly as possible.
"Just... around," he said.
For some reason, I didn't buy that.

It was too obvious that she knew something was going on. She stood before me, arms folded across her chest, as I tried to avoid eye contact. But she lifted my chin up to make me look her in the eye, and she must have seen my guilt.
I promised myself that I would tell her 4 months ago when this happend. Now is when I needed to gain up all of my strength and courage to tell her. Now. Not later.
"OK, Adi," I said. "I'll tell you, but you might wanna sit down."
"Fine." she said.
I knew that I had got her attention, but for the worse.
"What is it that you need to tell me?"
"I've been..."
"What?"
Tears began to form in the corners of my eyes.
I knew it was wrong.
