What Really Goes On In Billie Joe's Head, chapter 1
We're doing our photo shoot and interview for Rolling Stone magazine today. I called up Mike and reminded him, and as always he says that he already knows. Mike can be such a wise-ass sometimes. I called up Tre and reminded him. As always, he makes a joke about it. What happens when things get serioius? Tre just goes on and makes a joke about it. I got dressed in a t-shirt and black jeans. What the hell, they're going to change my clothes anyway. I get into my car and start my way to the studio. As I'm driving around, I pass by Gilman Street. I always do this, it brings back good memories. But ever since we entered the Dookie era, there was no turning back. We were rejected from Gilman Street and scorned because we were too famous. It's like being rejected by a family, a sad thing. After I get a good look at Gilman Street I turn around and go in the direction of the studio. When I get there Mike and Tre are already there. They welcome me and hand me a beer. We sip beer and talk as we wait for our appointment. Yes, Tre can be a clown and Mike can be a wise-ass, but I'll always love them as my best friends. When the lady calls us in they take us directly to the make-up place. Tre and I already have eyeliner on that we put on ourselves, but they just wipe it off and put on some eyeliner. Mike got his hair spiked up only. They straightened my hair and spiked it up while they just spiked Tre's bangs up. Since they had to straighten my hair, by the time I finished everyone else already had their clothes on. I got my clothes on, a black collared shirt and a red tie. As usual. My life can be so boring sometimes because it seems that we are working the same routine and getting paid for it. Sometimes I'd wish that we could go back to the old days where more excitement happened. Living on the streets, for one, was challenging. And also, gigs were hard to get in our old days, and whenever we got a gig we would feel so blessed. Nowadays we're practically getting gigs thrown at us without us asking for it. Yeah, I guess I am grateful to end up this way, but... I don't know. After all the flashing lights and endless questions we stopped by Rudy's. We planned a party tonight so we discussed it at Rudy's. We had our lunch and went to our homes, planning to meet later this evening. As I entered the door of my house Adie greeted me with a kiss on the cheek. She is one of the joys of my life, and I'm lucky to have her. Jakob was sleeping and Joey was in the kitchen. I went in the kitchen to see Joey, a close resemblance of me. "Joeey!" I said as I picked him up. "Hi, dad," he said as he shoved a gummy worm in my mouth. This was one of the acts of affection. I put Joey down and went into Jakob's room. He was peacefully sleeping in his bed and I slightly stroked his cheek. Then I went outside and found Adie, replanting something. I told her about the party plans tonight and she said that she would find a place for Joey and Jakob to stay that night. She phoned one of Joey's friends at school and asked his mom if Joey and Jakob could stay over there for the night. The two moms agreed and Joey and Jakob left at eight o'clock, two hours before the party started. Tre and Mike came during this time to help set up. Tre brought the alcohol and cups. Mike brought the food and plates. He had some pot and left the pouch of weed in the bathroom. When I went in to use the bathroom, I looked at the pouch in temptation. I was reaching for it but stopped myself. I have kids, and this could ruin them. I took the pouch and flushed it down the toliet. Oh, fuck, this is Mike's. Oh well.
