What Really Goes On In Billie Joe's Head, chapter 49

I sighed. I felt so guilty. It seemed like I didn't care compared to Adie.
I really did care, my heart ached for him. I felt the pain, I've felt that kind of pain before. I put my arm around Tre's shoulder.
"Don't beat yourself up about this," I said.
"I did wrong...It wasn't her...It was me."
"The reality of it is that it's not gonna work out. I never trusted her. I can remember that you took Katie everywhere with you. There was only one time you left her alone. A girl's supposed to appreciate that. I'm thinking that she's either clingy or just making up an excuse to make herself sound more right,"
"B-but in high school...When we went out.. She promised that she'd be with me no matter what,"
"Then she's not much of a trustworthy person. Plus, you were young,"
"She promised...she promised!"
"You don't need Katie. She's definently not your type,"
"Here, have some ice cream and beer," said Adie softly as she set it down in front of Tre.
Tre wiped the tears off his face and leaned over to take the glass of beer. He took his ice cream and dumped it into the beer. Then he drank the beer and ice cream combonation.
"You know what?" I said.
Tre put down his glass of beer.
"What?"
"We're gonna take you out. We're gonna show you how fun it is to be single,"
"But you're not single yourself, Billie,"
"So what? You are. You know how Katie's scared to do some things you do,"
"Yeah..."
"So now you have more freedom,"
"..."
"We could go out to clubs, get you a girl"
Tre nodded.
"You're free to flirt and get piss ass drunk,"
"Alright," said Tre.
"So are you gonna come to the late night show with the rest of us?" I asked.
"Uuuuh...yeah I guess,"
"Then get your party clothes on,"
"They're in my room,"
"Then get it while me and Adie dress,"
"Ok,"
Then after taking a big gulp of his beer, he sat up and left.
"I'll dress up," I said to Adie.
Adie nodded. I went into my room and searched through my suitcase. I found a simple black short sleeved collared shirt and tied a polka dotted tie with it.
Then I put a pinstripe vest over it all. I put on some black jeans and pulled on red and black striped socks.
I went in the bathroom and looked at myself. With all these layers, it felt pretty hot.
I spritzed my hair and made it stick up a little, leaving my bangs down. My bangs looked fuzzy and dry, so I took some gel and put some on my bangs.
"Fuck," I muttered under my breath as I tried to adjust it the way I wanted it to look like.
I sighed.
I just couldn't get it the way my hair dresser always made it. I moved it a little. Close enough. I stepped out of the bathroom. Adie was still dressing. It wasn't very awkward.
I've seen her naked many times before. I opened the door and walked over to the living room. I sat down on the couch. Just then, the door busted open. Tre came rushing in all dressed up, his hair a little crooked, and holding a people magazine.
"Billie, you won't believe this!" exclaimed Tre.
"What?"
"Look!" He opened up the magazine to the gossip column. He pointed to a picture of me and Adie having dinner together at the French Resturaunt.
"What the-" I said.
Now I remembered. It was that day when I got back from LA so I made a dinner date with Adie at the Pastis resturaunt.
I looked at it closer.
"That was a way long time ago," I said.
I read what it was saying under the picture.
"One of the hottest couples of the year," it said.
"Shit, I hate being in gossip columns," I said.
