Another Beginning, chapter 3
It was now Winter Break and Christmas was 5 days away. I still wasn't sure why we celebrated Christmas, considering we weren't big on the 'God' idea. Maybe it was out of tradition. I was just watching my sister put ornaments on the tree, why was I even here?
"Sheena?" my Mom said. "Are you going to help us?"
"Huh? Oh, yea." I said as I picked out a green icicle-like ornament and put it on the tree. "I really hate putting ornaments on trees, and taking the tree down, spending—"
I was interrupted by the phone, which my mom answered.
"Its for you." My mom said with a smirk on her face as she put the phone down on the kitchen counter. I gave her a weird look and went to the kitchen to get the phone.
"Hello?" I said.
"Hello?" said the caller.
"Hello!" I said wondering who was on the other line.
"You know who it is?" he asked.
"It kind of sounds like... Kyle? Is that you?" I asked, then I realized it wasn't him. Who was it?
"Its me! Billie Joe!" he said interrupting my guessing.
"Holy... " I said, censoring my self so my mom wouldn't overhear me.
"Yea, just wanted to call you, did you get the letters?" he said.
"Yes, yes, I got the letters." I said astonished.
"Don't be shocked, its just me, remember were going to be working together for a while. You don't have to pretend I'm anything but your friend."
"Ok." I said. "Its just weird. I never thought about what I'd say to you when I talked to you."
"What about the interview? I was just in the other room."
"Yea, but it wasn't you I was talking to."
"True, well, I just wanted to wish you guys a happy holidays cause I didn't want to call you when you were celebrating," he paused for a second "whatever holiday you celebrate."
"Chirstmas... kinda." I said finishing the statement.
"Kinda?"
"Yea, I was just thinking about how I wasn't raised to believe in God, but why have I celebrated Christmas all my life?"
"Oh, well, why don't you stop?"
"Stop when everyone else keeps going? My parents would be ok with that, but my sister would take it in offence."
"Older or younger sister?"
"Younger, but I have an older half sister too."
"How old?"
"29, she told my mom she had one of you guys CDs." I said as I smiled.
"So it runs in the family?"
"No not really. I always liked you guys but when--"
I was interrupted by my mom.
"Are you going to finish with ornaments?"
"You know what Mom? I don't think I'm going to do the Christmas thing anymore." I said with a smile on my face.
