Another Beginning, chapter 4

I wasn't listening to a thing Coach Yelle was saying to us. We were sitting in the locker room, she usually talked to us about out physical activities over the weekend, but I couldn't concentrate on anything but the clock. Rudie and Jules were in the same class as me so I didn't have to meet them somewhere at school to say goodbye. Finally, the bell rang. I was the first one out to the car lot. As usual, my Mom was about 15 cars back so I had to wait for her.

"Sheena!" I heard from behind me. Oh shit, it was Amanda. I started to walk anywhere to get away from her. I tried to walk to the car, but some 9th grade teacher stopped me. Amanda kept following me. I finally stopped and decided I might as well get this over with.

"Yes." I said sarcastically.

"I heard about what your doing. Your going to see Bil--"

"That's right. I am. I'm going to have the time of my life filming a movie with him."

"Yea, about that," she said sounding confused as to why I cut her off. "I was wondering if you could maybe get him to sign this for me." She said holding out an American Idiot CD.

"Are you sure you can live without this for a year or so?" I said in a child-like voice.

"Oh, its my 3rd copy, and you can mail it to me!" She said eagerly.

She handed me her address and walked away. I tossed it in the dirt and my mom pulled up.

"Thanks for picking my up."

"How was school?" my Mom asked.

"Pretty lame. Then Amanda had to come up. She gave me a CD to get signed. But hey, now I have two copies! Great isn't it?"

"Sheena, you should've given it back if you weren't going to get it signed."

"But Mom! How could I resist making her miserable?"

My Mom rolled her eyes, but I knew she really didn't care, and I couldn't do anything about it now.

My sister was already there when I got home. I had no idea what I was going to do until I had to go to sleep. I watched some TV, then I decided to call Jules. I walked past my Dads office and told him I was going to use the phone.

"Sheena, come here for a second." My Dad said,

I walked over into the office. My dad told me to stay here and came back with something in a shoebox.

"I decided that since your going away for a long time, and you don't have one, you needed a cell phone."

My dad handed me the box and I opened it, only to find a Motorola Razr phone. Shit, I knew these things were expensive, but I was always talking about how awesome that phone must be.

"Thank you Dad!" I said. I ran upstairs because I didn't know what else to say, my Dad was never this nice.

I called Jules and we talked for only a half an hour, because my Mom called me down for dinner. We were having pasta. My last meal was going to be pasta? We had pasta almost every other night. Well, they did get me a cell phone, so I decided one more plate of spaghetti wasn't going to hurt.

Dinner went by quickly and I immediately went upstairs and packed for the trip. I knew I was going to have to all of my clothes that I wore. Plus, my mom took me on a shopping spree last week, so I was sure I was going to have enough. I packed up all the thing I might need. My Green Day posters, CDs, journal, sketchbook, everything I thought I would need. My computer was in a big box that was going to be sent to my apartment tomorrow. I put my CD player in my backpack, to use as a carry on tomorrow, along with 4 CDs for the flight. American Idiot, Warning, Dookie and London Calling by The Clash.

After I finished packing, I read over all of the papers, and the letter form Billie Joe. "... and everyone who's getting the real message of the album." I thought of Amanda and then realized I might not ever have to talk to her again. Then I thought about how this was going to be the best thing that would ever happen to me, and tomorrow was just the beginning.
