Tripping Over Raindrops, chapter 11

A few blocks down Billie Joe pulled Jessie into a small coffee shop. It was warm and the atmosphere was comfortable. There was a small jazz band playing in the corner. Jessie laughed a little when Billie Joe pulled out her chair at a small table by the window. There weren't too many people, so it didn't feel crowded at all. A waitress came up to them who didn't look like she usually went from table to table. She was a little short lady with red hair twisted into a bun that was slightly falling, probably due to working all day. Her name tag read, 'Candie'.
"What can I get you darlings?" She asked nicely.
"A hot chocolate please." Jessie said.
"Same here." Billie Joe contributed.
"Nice choice." Candie replied and walked back to make their orders.
"This place is nice BJ. Is it new?" Jess said looking around at the not so shabby decorations.
"Yeah, a few months." Billie Joe replied smiling at how much Jess seems to like it.


Later that night Jess had fallen asleep against Tre while watching Revenge of the Nerds part 3 while Billie Joe was in the shower. Mike had decided to go to bed leaving Tre and Jess alone. After growing bored with all the crappy movies that were just coming on Tre looked down at Jess. She was real pretty. 'I can see why B. J. Likes her so much. ' he thought, absentmindedly stroking her hair. He heard the bathroom door open and Billie's door close, he knew it wouldn't be long before Billie Joe came to get Jessie to put her to bed. Without thinking Tre leaned down and brushed his lips against Jessie's for a brief second he he'sitated before he felt Jess leaning into him and kissing him back. Jess opened her eyes still smiling waiting to see Billie Joe. Her face dropped as soon as the face in front of her became clear.
"Tre!?" she yelled in shock, "What are you doing?!"
"I'm sorry! You were just... And I was... And... Sorry! I'm so sorry!" Tre tried to explain as Jessie jumped up and headed for the stairs. She stopped just before she reached them and turned back you a crestfallen Tre.
"Don't tell Billie, Good Night Tre." She said in a calm but cold voice.
This was horrible. What would Billie Joe think? She had just kissed Tre Cool not Billie Joe Armstrong! She thought it was Billie Joe when she did it though, so that made it okay right? No. She had still locked lips with Tre, not Billie. She couldn't tell Billie Joe and risk the band, but she couldn't hold it in forever. She needed to talk to the only person she could always turn to. The only person who knew her inside out... She needed to talk to Mike.

Walking past Billie Joe's room made her stomach turn in the worst way. Pushing the lump in her throat down she made her way to Mike's door. The light was out. He was asleep, but this was important. Quietly Jess pushed the door open to see a lump lying on the bed snoring slightly.
"Mikey?" Jess said timidly.
No response.
"Mikey?" Jess said again this time a little closer. When she reached the edge of the bed she sat down slowly and nudged him a little.
Rolling over Mike could make out a person sitting on his bed looking down at him.
"Hmm?" he grunted sleepily.
"Mike I need to talk to you. I'm sorry for waking you up but... It's really important." Jess said quietly.
Propping himself up on his pillows Mike clicked on his lamp and yawned.
"Shoot." he said looking at her and smiling warmly.
"Well... It's... It's well you know me and Billie Joe are an item now and well... I don't know but. I feel asleep earlier on the couch and..."
Mike nodded intently while Jess built up her courage to keep going.
"Well I woke up because Billie Joe was kissing me, but then I opened my eyes and it wasn't Billie Joe, it was Tre. And I kissed him back, and I don't want to tell Billie Joe because I don't want him to think I'm a whore. Plus, I don't want to mess things up for the band and... And..." Jess rambled.
"Wait wait Jess... Jess! Stop." Mike said as she kept going. Jess stopped and looked at him sadly.
"Tre kissed you while you were sleeping?" Mike asked looking concerned.
Jess nodded, "But I kissed him back!"
"After you knew it was Tre?" Mike said sternly.
"No, I didn't open my eyes until after. Then I saw it was Tre. I told him not to tell Billie, but Mike what am I going to do? I feel horrible! I can't do this to Billie Joe I... I..." Jessie said tearing up.
"Jessie." Mike said simply, "You didn't do anything. I'm sure you can tell Billie Joe he won't get mad... Just... Wait for the right time to tell him. "
Jessie nodded looking down. She felt Mike wrap his arms around her and pull her into a comforting hug.
"I love you Mike." Jess whispered.
"I love you too Jess." Mike replied before letting her go.
Just as Jessie reached the door she turned around one last time.
"Mikey?"
"Hmm?" Mike saying laying back down.
"Thanks." Jess replied.
