Tripping Over Raindrops, chapter 9
For the next hour Billie Joe and Jessie just sat and talked about anything they could think of. Billie Joe talked about where their next gig was and Jessie talked about how she always imagined they would be big. They were still talking when they heard the front door open.
"That must be Mike." Billie Joe said.
"Oh, we should go help him then." Jessie said standing up, holding out a hand to Billie Joe. After helping him up they walked downstairs to see about twenty grocery bags on the table and floor.
"Jesus Mike! What all did you get?!" Billie Joe said staring at all the bags.
"Food...and beer." Mike replied shrugging.
"I didn't put that much on the list, but more is better I guess." Jess said leaning down to pick up one of the bags off the floor. Billie Joe watched her as she put each thing in a certain place. He started to help along with Mike asking every now and then where something went.
About ten minutes later Jessie gathered up all the plastic bags and went to throw them away. While she was gone Mike turned to Billie Joe.
"What did you do to make her so happy?" Mike asked noticing the gleam in Billie Joe's eyes.
"Nothing, we just talked." Billie Joe said half truthfully.
"Right." Mike replied turning away to go to the lounge.
"Oh, um, Hey Mike?" Billie Joe said.
"Yeah?" Mike said turning around.
"Well....I think. Well...I'm not sure but...I...Jessie she's really nice you know...and I...we...I think...we are sort of....together now." Billie Joe finally managed to get out.
"You what?!" Mike gapped.
"I think we..." Billie Joe started to say again slowly.
"I heard you, but when did this finally happen?" Mike asked still with a surprised expression.
"Last night, I think." Billie Joe said looking down, "You aren't mad are you? Because I really like her. I promise I'm not going to hurt her, I swear Mike. I swear."
"Billie Joe I'm not mad! I'm so happy for you guys, because I know you won't do anything to hurt her. I think that's great BJ!" Mike said laughing slightly.
Jessie walked in to catch the last part of what Mike was saying.
"What's great BJ?" She asked curiously. Billie Joe's stomach turned when she called him BJ.
"That you guys are together!" Mike said happily. Jessie's cheeks flushed with color as she looked down at the floor then up at Billie moving closer she whispered, "W-We are?"
Billie Joe felt his heart drop as he nodded slowly, not sure what she would say. As Mike turned to walk out of the room she threw her arms around his neck and kissed him happily. Billie Joe's heart floated back up to it's place as he smiled. Today, was definately a good day.
Jessie pulled back and smiled as Billie Joe saw the sparkles in her eyes dance. Slipping his hand into hers they made their way into the lounge where Mike was reading their Rolling Stones magazine that had just arrived.
"One day we're going to be on the cover of that." Billie Joe said to Mike who looked up. He smiled and nodded,
"We sure are, because we kick ass!"
Jessie laughed and agreed, they did.
Everyone turned as they heard a grunt and shuffling feet coming down the stairs.
"Morning Tre'!" Jessie said cheerfully.
"Morning." Tre' replied sleepily walking into the kitchen.
A few seconds later he emerged holding a cup of coffee.
"Well we're going to go for a walk. We'll be back later." Billie Joe said leading Jessie to the door. Mike nodded as Tre' looked up. As they made their way out the door Tre's eyes widened.
"Were they holding hands?" He asked Mike curiously.
"Yep." Mike replied still looking at his magazine.
"They're a couple now?" Tre' asked still shocked.
"Yep." mike said again.
"and no one told me!" Tre' said pouting.
"Nope." Mike replied.
"Well you're a lot of help." Tre' said standing up retreating back up the stairs.
Mike smiled to himself as he turned the page.
"Where are we going Billie Joe?" Jessie asked as they walked down the street.
"You'll see." He replied smiling.
Jessie sighed and followed.
Summer was just ending and the fall winds were setting in. A gust blew against them blowing Jessie's hair back over her shoulder. Billie Joe smiled as they turned the corner.
"Come on BJ! Where are we going?" Jessie whined.
Billie Joe smiled, " Just wait."
After about five more minutes they reached a little record store Jess had never noticed before. She looked at Billie curiously. He just nodded as he opened the door for her. Inside were rows and rows of albums and CDs. On the walls there were posters of a lot of local bands, but one caught Jessie's eye. It was a Green Day one. She tugged on Billie Joe's shirts as he looked where she pointed and nodded. He smiled as her eyes lit up. Making their way down the aisle.
After a few moments Billie Joe stopped and looked down. Jessie looked where he was looking and saw and EP called 1000 hours presented by Green Day. Above it was a sign that read *Top Seller! Better Get It NOW!* She smiled as Billie Joe snaked his arm around her waist pulling her into a hug.
"I told you, you guys are going to be big." She whispered in his ear, making chills run up his back as he smiled. He pulled away as someone behind them asked,
"Hey aren't you that guy from that band at Gilman?"
Billie Joe turned to see a kid who looked around sixteen.
"Yeah." Billie Joe replied cooly.
"You guys rock, can I have your autograph?" The kid asked excitedly.
"Sure." Billie Joe said pulling a sharpie out of his pocket. The kid handed Billie Joe the 1000 hours he had just bought and un wrapped before he noticed them in the corner of the store. Billie Joe smiled as he signed it and handed it back. The kid grinned, "Thanks! You rock!" With that he turned to walk away.
"Hey kid! What's you name?" Billie Joe asked.
"Um, Jakob!" He replied smiling.
"Well it was nice meeting you Jakob." Billie Joe said.
"You too!" Jakob replied. After watching Jakob leave the store Billie Joe turned back to Jessie who was smiling broadly.
"What?" Billie Joe said laughing.
Jessie just shook her head, "Nothing."
"Oh no, we aren't starting this again!" Billie Joe said pulling her back into a tight hug.
Mike was watching television when Tre' emerged from his room an hour later.
"Hey Mike, I'm going to run to my house and pick up some things. I'll be back later." Tre' called as he opened the front door.
"Okay, later man." Mike called back.
Now Billie Joe was following Jessie as she lead the way. She decided to take the long way that no one really knew.
"So are you guys going to practice later for Saturday?" Jess asked.
"Probably. Are you going to come watch us?" Billie Joe asked jumping at his chance to look at her.
"Of course, I always do." Jess said smiling back at him.
"That must be Mike." Billie Joe said.
