Love at First Sight, chapter 8
"At about 5:30 this morning your mother's car was found upturned on the side of the freeway. She was rushed to the hostpital and the doctors did everything they could, but I'm afraid she is dead...." he kept talking but you couldn't hear him. You just stared at him as his lips moved soundlessly.
You squeezed Billie Joe's hand harder trying to keep from falling apart. The officer put his hat on said something that you assumed to be 'I'm sorry' and walked down the hall. Billie Joe drove you home and stayed with you because he knew you needed him. You hadn't said anything since you heard the news of your mother's death. All that rang in your head was how you were an orphan, you had no one, you were alone. You mostly stared off into space, trying not to completely fall apart infront of Billie Joe. He walked you into your house and into your room, where you just sat motionless on your bed. He said next to you. Moments later everything that was going through your mind got the best of you, tears brimmed in your eyes and silently began to fall. You leaned down and rested your head on Billie Joe's lap and began to sob harder and harder. You felt like you were dieing.
"I can't breathe, Billie. I can't breathe."you said through sobs.
"I know, I'm here, I'm here." Billie Joe said while rubbing your back and arms.
A while later you had fallen asleep, exausted from crying to much. Billie Joe moved you so you were in a more comfortable position on the bed and covered you with a blanket. he walked into the living room to make a call on his cell phone, so not to wake you.
"Hey, it's Billie." he said through the phone.
"Hey Billie, what's up haven't seen you in a while." Mike answered on the other end of the phone.
"Yea well, I've been with Colleen..." he began but was interupted.
"...ohhh I got it. How's that comin'?" Mike asked.
"It's not like that dude, I think I love her..." Billie said alittle surprised himself.
"Oh sorry man I had no idea" Mike apologized.
"Listen that's not the reason I called. I called to say I might miss a couple practices, Colleen's mom just died. I think she needs someone right now and I think I'm all she's got at this point." he told his punk rocker friend.
"Oh yea sure dude don't worry about it. Give her my best and I hope everything turns out ok." The bandmate said before hanging up.
Billie Joe hung up the phone and came back into your room and layed down next to you on the bed cuddling close to you, and just watching you sleep. The words he had said about loving you rung in his head.
'I really do love this girl' Billie Joe said to himself.
