Wake Me Up When September Ends, chapter 1
Seven Years Ago
An eight year old girl was looking in the kitchen where her father and mother are, fighting. She doesn't know why. She has never seen them fight before, that is, in front of her. Suddenly, she saw her father go into his car and then drove away. She looked back to her mother, her head down on the table, crying. The little girl ran up to her room and was crying, her face on the pillow. Soon, she fell asleep.
The little girl woke up. She saw flashes of red, white, and blue lights. She went down stairs to see what was going on. When she went down there, the police men left and she saw her mother on the couch, crying. She went up to her, and her mother picked her up and put her on her lap. "Natalie, your father won't come home anymore." said the mother. "Why?" said Natalie. "It's hard to explain." she said. "But I want to know." said Natalie. "Its going to be a shocked to you and I don't know if I should tell you." she said. "But I really want to know why he isn't going to come back." screamed Natalie. "Your father died. The car went out of control and it drove into the dock and he fell in the water with the car." said the mother. After Natalie heard this, she fainted.
Present
A fourteen year old girl woke up in the middle of the night as though she had a nightmare. Actually, the eight year old girl was her, now she's all grown up. Her father did die when she was eight years old.
"I can't believe I still miss him." she said to herself. She turns around to the other side of the bed and sees a picture of herself, her mother, and her father. She grabbed the picture and kissed it. "Good night, dad." she said. Now, she and her mother never get along. Natalie always calls her mother by her real name, Cornelia. Cornelia is one of those mothers who smokes alot and does not do anything to help out around the house.
"Cornelia, I'm going to school!" Natalie said as she was walking down the stairs.
"What ever." said Cornelia.
"Aren't you going to drive me there?" she said as she got in front of her mother.
"You can take care of yourself." said Cornelia.
"You're such a bad parent!" she said as she ran out of the house.
Cornelia just got up off the couch and went into the kitchen. "Now what is there to eat in this crappy place." she said to herself.
At School
"Hey, Natalie." said her friend, rushing towards her.
"Oh, hey Anna." she said to her friend.
"You look as though you didn't get to sleep at all. Were you up all night, or what?"said Anna.
"Yeah, I was dreaming about him again." said Natalie.
"It's almost the annirversity of his death, isn't it?" said Anna.
"Yeah." said Natalie in a low voice. They entered the school doors and class was about to begin.
After School
"Bye Natalie, and remember get some sleep tonight." said Anna
"Thanks, I will." she shouted back to her friend. Then they went their seperate ways.
She arrived at home and for her surprise, it was quiet. "Cornelia, I'm home." she said, but there was no responce. "Cornelia?" she said again. She went into the living room, but she wasn't theree. Then, she went in to her room, but she wasn't there niether. She went into the kitchen and saw a knife covered with blood. She started to worry. "Cornelia!" she shouted.
"I'm in the bathroom, Natalie." she finally said. Natalie rushed towards the bathroom and saw her mother with paper on her hands.
"What happened?" she said.
"I almost cut my hand with that stupid knife," said Cornelia.
"But it's inusual for you to get cut with a knife." said Ntalie.
"I know, now shut up and help me with this thing." she demanded.
Natalie was so happy that mothing happened.
