Cat And Mouse, chapter 10
Alice's bed was small and the duvet covers had some sort of duck pattern on it. She sat at the end, picking at her thumbnail. Pam came up to her and kneeled at the foot of the bed.
"Hey, Alice." She spoke softly and didn't look her in the eyes.
"Hi."
"Listen, I know this is a big inconvenience for you, but it'll work out in the end."
"Pam, I hate to put it bluntly but you kidnapped me. I really don't want to talk to you right now." She turned around and flopped down on the bed. Pam leaned forward to try and stop her, but Robert came up from behind and put a firm hand on her shoulder.
"We best leave her alone. Nothing worse than an uncooperative kidnap victim... "
"Robert, they're all that way."
"Right."
"I'm going downstairs for a drink." Pam reached over to a chair where her coat was slung.
"I'll come with you."
"Someone has to watch her."
"I won't run away!" Alice called out from the bed.
"See, look. She said she's not going to run away. I need a drink, too."
"No. Stay here." Pam picked up her coat, threw it on and walked out of the door. Robert slowly sat down in the chair next to Alice's bed.
"So, uh, how are you?"
"Terrible."
"That's... expected. Well we'll try to make this as enjoyable as possible."
Alice lifted her head and looked at Robert. Her eyes were bright red and watery. "And how do you plan on doing that?"
"I haven't really figured that out yet. Maybe... um... some clowns and, er, balloons, possibly some farm animals... " He smiled deviously as he spoke and Alice started to smile and eventually broke into a laugh.
"See, there we go. You're feeling better already."
Alice reached over and picked up Robert's hand. "Thanks."
He moved himself over to the bed and pulled Alice closer to him. "Anytime... "
At that moment Pam came bursting through the door. Her coat was gone and she looked a bit flustered. "We've got to go."

"What the hell is this?" Bunny leaned into the car window and at the back seat, where Tom sat smiling innocently. "I thought you were gone."
"Ms., we should get going, it's starting to get late."
"It's only six-thirty and besides, I'm not getting in that car if that twerp is in there!"
"We don't have time to settle discrepancies."
"Gah! How the hell did you get the keys to me car anyways?"
Tom took this question, leaning forward to level himself with Bunny's very angry eyes.
"Stan gave them to me."
"How did Stan get my keys?"
"Ask Stan."
"Listen we've got to go. Please, Bunny, get in the car."
"Ugh!" She punched the air and then walked around to the side to get in. Sitting in the passenger seat, she turned around and faced Tom.
"I will kill you."
"Lighten up, Bunny. It's gonna be a long trip if you're going to be bitter."
"It's going to be a long trip regardless."
