Burning Out, chapter 2
All the way to Billie Joe's house, niether of them spoke, but occasionally, Billie Joe looked at Kate, found himself blushing and looked away again. After a ten minute walk, they finally arrived at Billie Joe's house.
"Well, here we are," he said smiling, "It's not much, but hey, it's home... I... Erm... Do you want something to eat?"
Kate smiled, the rain was stopping but she didn't care, she found Billie Joe kind of sweet, so decided she'd stay for lunch.
"Yeah sure... I must tell you, I'm not fussy," As they walked into the kitchen, it her her how big the house was, "Wow, this place is huge!"
She sat down on the couch, and Billie brought in a plate piled high with sandwiches. He sat down on the couch next to her, and I wasn't long before they were deep in conversation about their families, music and all kinds of other things.
"Yeah," Billie Joe said, his voice muffled by bits of sandwich, "This place seems so much bigger now me and Adie are divorced, I still kind of miss her, but you gotta move on." Kate was gripped on every word he was saying, as if he was telling her he'd just got back from wrestling sharks in Hawaii.
When they'd finished, they cleared away their plates, and sat back down again, however, this time, the conversation was full of awkward silences, where they'd both look at each other, blush and then laugh. It was like they could tell each other's thoughts.
"Erm... Do you wanna watch a movie? I got tonnes." Billie Joe beamed at Kate, so she agreed, and they went to take a look at his movie collection.
"How's about... Hmmm... The Godfather?" she said, kind of unsure of herself.
"Jeez, how did you know that is my favourite movie?" Billie Joe giggled, pulled the DVD off the rack, put it in the machine, and they settled down on the couch. But something was telling them both they should get a bit closer, so after a minute or so, Kate budged along the sofa, and into Billie Joe's arms. He gently stroked her arms and back, and kept kissing the top of her head. Neither of them moved from that spot for two hours.
When the movie finished, Billie Joe leaned over, kissed her on the cheek and whispered in her ear "You're beautiful."
