1988, chapter 1
In the summer of 1988... .
"Were moving where?" Maria asked sitting in their lounge room with her 2 older brothers and older sisters.
"Rodeo, its 15 minutes from Oakland" their mother said firmly
"So?" smirked Jake, one of Maria's brothers
"Well since Justin is going to Collage this year to join Marge and Jordan, I thought we might get a new house, anyway your stepfather got a new job in an oil refinery very close to Rodeo"
"So, that's the real reason" mumbled Maria as her mum left the room.
"THAT'S NOT FUCKING FAIR!" yelled Jake, standing up "just because fucking Anthony got a new job shouldn't mean we have to move!"
"Well it won't be that bad" shrugged Justin
"That's because you're going to a friggin' dorm dumbass!"
"Geez Jake settle down" Monica murmured. Maria got up
"Where you going shrimp?" asked Jake
"Does that really matter dickhead?"
"She's only going to her boyfriend Frank's house" teased Monica
"For fuck sake- HE'S NOT MY BOYFRIEND and he prefers Tre now"
"Would you guys just leave her alone?" snapped Justin
"Thanks"
"Hey someone's gotta stick up for you"
"Yeah but your going to collage"
"And you're going to Rodeo". Maria walked out the front door heading to her best friends house, she had known Tre ever since he first moved here to Mendocino Mountains. Their dads had introduced them, her's was now dead. Tre lived two houses up from Maria but because of the area they lived in she had to walk fairly far. She hoped right now that he'd finished practise with Laurence Livermore and the rest of 'The Lookouts'. She knocked on the door and waited a few minutes until Tre swang open the front door
"What brings you here little missy?" he smirked
"Tre I've got something to tell you"
"What you're pregnant? Jesus Maria! What about protection... "
"Tre, don't be an idiot!" she pushed past him and he followed her to his kitchen, they sat down and Maria hung her head down so she was looking at her busted old black Converses, and she sighed
"Mum says were moving to Rodeo"
"WHAT! WHERE THE HELL IS RODEO?" she looked up at him
"YOU BETTER NOT BE JOKING MARIA!..." he continued yelling, Maria looked closer at his face with her green eyes- he looked as if he was going to cry and after the 11 years she'd known him he'd never really ever done that.
"It's near Berkeley, like Oakland area" he breathed out, his cheeks were still puffy and pink
"Well at least you're near Gilman still"
"Hey your right!" she smiled, Tre's face was turning its natural colour again
"When you moving?"
"Umm, I don't actually know... "
"So you might not be moving" smiled Tre
"No, we are cause *sarcasm* Anthony got a job at a oil refinery"
"Aw well we can still see each other at school"
"I think I'm going to another school too"
"FUCK! Well the weekends then and Gilman of course, because you still have to come see me and the guys play"
"I wouldn't miss that for the world!" they were both silent until Maria spoke again
"I should be going, it's almost dinner time"
"So? It's not like you've ever eaten here before"
"Oh ok, for old times sake". After dinner with the Wrights and Cool, Maria bid farewell and headed home.
When she got there the house was a stamped with her siblings, mum and Anthony rushing around packing things
"What the hell?" she asked Justin
"Were moving tomorrow sis because mum figured waiting to move would make us rebel or something"
"You're kidding?"
"Nah, mums been looking for you, there's boxes in your room for you to pack and before you go the only things you don't pack are your bed shit and a change of clothes for tomorrow- oh yeah you have to write your name on the boxes"
"That's kinda common sense Just" Maria Walked off to the phone instead of her room. Her fingers dialled basically automatically Tre's number; she didn't have to wait long until some body picked the phone up
"Hello?"
"Hi, Is Tre there?"
"Oh, Maria? I'll go get him!" Maria twirled her fingers in the phone cord until she was startled
"Hi babe!"
"Tomorrow" she whispered
"Huh? Oh-OH you're moving tomorrow?"
"Ah-ha"
"Fuck!" he whispered "that's not fair!"
"Duh! Anyway gotta go and pack, bye Tre!"
"Bye Maria" they both hung up. She sighed and went to her bedroom to pack.
