They Found Him In A Cadillac..., chapter 9

"What-"
"THEY FIRED ME!"
"But... Why?"
"Mind your own business!" And she stomps out of the room, going into her bedroom and slamming the door.
A minute later, a small voice pipes up from Jack's room.
"Sophia?..."
I go into his room, to see him lying wide eyed in bed.
"What happened?"
"Nothing," I lie soothingly, "Its ok. Just go to sleep..."
I want to punch myself for lying to such a sweet little boy, but how are you supposed to explain to an eight-year-old that we're more than likely going to lose our home?

JAKOB'S POV

I'm sitting at my drum set, just screwing around and beating the shit out of them like Tre taught me to. You'd think a really hyper guy like him wouldn't be much of a teacher, but no, he's great. Dad taught Joey the guitar, but now he doesn't get lessons, he just teaches himself new songs with his band.
I toss my drumsticks in the air, letting them fall onto the already crowded, and increasingly messy floor. Its starting to look like my old room already. Mom and Dad are really cool about me having a messy room. Dad says it'd be hyppocritical of him to tell me off, and Mom says she doesn't give a shit, as long as I don't complain that I can't find anything.

Next day, I'm again walking to school, humming along to The Ramones on my ipod. Ten minutes later, I arrive at school. I scan the area outside the gate, hoping to spot Sophia. I frown. Where is she? I shrug. Maybe she's late. I stroll into the gates, and am just about to turn towards the front doors of the school... When I notice a clump of people with malicious-looking faces, all clustered around a point on a low wall nearby. I walk up, pushing past a few people, trying to see the centre of all this attention, but a particularly tall guy is blocking my way. Damn my dad for making me short.
"Admit it. Your Mum's a slut."
"Yeah, wandering around in that tiny mini skirt and top. She looks like a hooker."
"It's pathetic."
"She's a whore."
"How old was she when she had you? Fifteen?"
"No wonder your dad left."
"Yeah, I mean who stays for a slut of a girlfriend and a bastard of a daughter?" That's it. What the fuck is this? This is so fucked up. I don't care who they're teasing, it makes me fucking sick, and I can't listen to it aymore. I shove the person in front of me hard, and step forward to look at the victim of the bullying.
Sophia's sitting there on the little wall, arms wrapped around her knees and defiantly trying not to cry. My jaw drops slightly. Then Sophia looks up and sees me, and for a moment fear flickers in her eyes.
Oh god, she thinks I'm one of them.
Then I punch the guy nearest me. I send him to the fucking floor. And the next one, but then a hand catches hold of my wrist and tightens.
"What're you doing, rockstar?" comes a quiet voice, and suddenly the hand twists my wrist violently, and I berate myself mentally for letting a small squeak of pain out. There's more soft laughter.
"You gotta learn, Jakey-boy, that we don't care if your dad's an old sell-out rockstar. You gotta be put in your place..." And then I'm on the ground, back twinging in pain. A foot treads on my hand, and another rests on my stomach, just enough for it to hurt, and I whimper slightly, making their grins widen.
"WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING HERE?" a voice shouts, heavily laden with an Australian accent that would put Neighbours to shame, and someone pushes through the crowd and looks down at me on the ground, and Sophia crying quietly on the low wall next to me. I think it's a teacher.
"Geddup," she says to me, "You look pathetic." I scowl, and get to my feet. I realise that the person isn't a teacher. It's a girl. She's fucking tall though. Sandy-blonde, frizzy hair and bright blue eyes. Then she proceeds to look right at the menacing-looking guys behind her.
"Can I get through?" The guy just glares, and raises his fist. The girl shrugs. "Fine then." And fucking belts him to the ground in one shot. "Anyone ELSE wanna be stew-pid?" she asks, her eyes almost glowing. No one speaks. But an automatic path forms, as people step backa little. The girl raises one eyebrow, then grabs Sophia's wrist, pulling her up, apparantly completely oblivious to the fact that Sophia still has tears running down her cheeks. It's almost like a nurse, completely un-fased when someone screams as they fix whatever wound the person has been inflicted with, almost to a point where you wonder whether they're human. She pulls her up to the school building, and takes a few turns, with every appearance of knowing where she's headed. She takes a corner, turning into a deserted corridor and swerving into an empty classroom, shutting the door behind us.

Wow. Now THAT'S... I have no idea what it is. But it's definitely something.

Nice analogy there, Jakob.
