Full Of Rage... Maybe Forever, chapter 5

*Rodeo*

Surprisingly, Jane and Billie Joe remained friends after their semi-argument. Although, something in both of them told them they shouldn't have given up what they had, but in the end, they both agreed that just being friends worked better. The three of them, Billie Joe, Mike, and Jane all hung out together every chance they got. Jane was officially, "one of the guys."
As soon as high school started, the next year, Billie Joe and Jane were tempted to start over again, but once again, didn't. Besides, Billie Joe had recently noticed a change in Jane's behavior. One day, he approached her with this.
"What's been going on with you lately, Jane? You have been so quiet and all; not at all like you used to be. Is it Sheena again." As soon as he spoke the words, he knew he set off some sort of time bomb inside of Jane's throat.
"Billie Joe! I have told you a million times that nothing in this is Sheena's fault, and I wish you would just grow up!"
Billie Joe had obviously expected this, but when she said it, it still took him a minute to respond; a minute too late that is. Jane had picked up her books up off of the lunch table they were sitting at, and stalked off.
"What the hell crawled up her ass and died?" Mike jokingly asked.
Billie Joe didn't answer. Instead, he just folded his arms and laid his head face down in them.
"Oh," Mike added, "Sorry, I didn't know it wasn't a joking matter or what not." Mike had rambled on, trying to find good words.
"Something's eating at her, Mike... ... . I just don't know what." Billie Joe mumbled through his arms.
"Don't worry, man. She'll come around sooner or later."
Billie Joe raised his head, and looked at Mike.
"That's just it. I don't know why she has to come around. I mean, I just don't know what's wrong. Even though she pretty much hates me right now, I still hate seeing her hurt like this. And besides, it isn't my fault if Sheena left me with an impression of a bitch."
Mike laughed a little, as he got up from the table.
"You think to much. Wow. Now those are some word I never thought I would tell you. But yeah, anyway, like I said, she will come around. Maybe you should go talk to her."
Billie Joe just sat at the table, solemnly.
"Yeah, maybe."
Mike rolled his eyes.
"O, and smile before I smite you." Mike added before walking away.
Billie Joe forced a smile.

"Hey, Jane, can we talk?" Billie Joe approached Jane in the hallway in between classes.
"Billie Joe, just drop-"
"Look, I just want to know what has been bugging you lately. I don't like seeing you like this."
Jane looked up and met eyes with him. She smiled.
"Well, thank you, for, well ya' know, caring."
Billie Joe pulled her in for a hug, and she felt greatly obliged to hug back. She even resisted the urge to cry into him. She didn't want him to start asking her questions again. If he knew about what was going on with Sheena, he would just get mad that she had lied to him and kept it from him. Then, Sheena might get mad that she was blabbing her personal life to Billie Joe, of all people. Billie Joe was the last person she wanted sympathy from, especially if he didn't really mean it. Sheena had bigger problems. Besides, Jane didn't want to lose her best friend.
