Baby You Can Drive My Car, chapter 2
Layla grinned sloppily as she remembered the thought of cleaning Tre's bloody nose. She chuckled to herself as she turned her attention back to the television set. Damn, why did these stupid things always have to be so long and boring? Layla tried to keep herself awake, but she was falling awfully tired, but then as Layla was about to doze off she heard the name "Green Day."
She snapped her head back to the t.v., which kind of made her hurt her neck a bit before she realized that Green Day had just won best rock album! Layla jumped straight off the bed she was lying on as she went crazy shouting "My baby won! My baby won!" She then grabbed a pillow and began to bite into it, trying to keep her excitement from blowing over. She watched the last part as Billie Joe finally said "rock n' roll can be fun and dangerous!"
She smiled as she sighed happily and whispered to herself, "Congratulations baby, you deserve it."

By the time Tre had gotten back from the grammy after party, Layla was lying in bed, sleeping. Well what did he expect from her? She probably even missed them winning rock album. He sighed feeling a little hurt and shocked. It was bad enough that she didn't join him to go to the grammy's, but now this? Well, maybe he was over reacting, but he decided to put away all his feelings at the moment and just go to bed. He didn't feel like waking up Layla, even though he really wanted to "celebrate" with her, so he just left her alone.
The next morning Layla woke up groaning slightly at the thought that it was seven in the morning. She turned her body around to where she could see Tre sleeping soundly right next to her. She smirked devilishly before going under the covers and straddling Tre so she was now on top of him. To her dismay, he didn't wake up. Hmm...something was wrong here. He was supposed to wake up! She huffed disappointedly as she smacked Tre in the head gently.
"Ow!" Tre let out, before instinctively putting his hand to his head. He opened his sleepy blue eyes to see Layla lying on top of him, giggling. He frowned before finally realizing what was taking place.
"Finally you are awake," Layla rolled over off him, so she was now lying next to him. Tre gave her a sad look but she did not return sympathy. "Ah, you had your chance," Layla smirked.
Tre sighed before saying, "figures."
Layla shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly before starting conversation on the "grammy win." "So...saw you guy's last night....you were incredible."
"Thanks, hon. Too bad YOU weren't there," Tre muttered still feeling a little rejected and unwanted by her not staying up late to see him win. He knew he was being a little childish, but this really meant something to him and for her to not even feel a little of the excitement he was feeling didn't really leave him with "I love you" written all over his face.
Layla could feel her face get red. She was not expecting that type of blow. Why was he being so distant, all of a sudden? All she was doing was complimenting him, hell, is that wrong?! Of course she felt bad for not coming, but she thought he had all ready gotten past that. Why was he acting like such a baby?
"What is with you? I was just saying how much I loved your performance," Layla commented, you could hear the hurt in her tone of voice. This is when Tre instantly regretted what he had just said. She was like a lost puppy, always wandering away, but was still so lovable.
"I know...I'm sorry. I just...I...I was just blowing off steam. I mean...you didn't even see that we won-"
"Best rock album," Layla finished with passion in her eyes. Shit. How could he judge her so quickly? He didn't even realize what he was saying, he was acting on impulse which was getting him in a hole he didn't want to even get deep in.
"......yeah....that," Tre sighed. Layla then started laughing, which made Tre all the more confused. She wasn't just laughing like "haha" but laughing hysterically and was having some trouble breathing by the sounds of it.
"...what's so funny?" Tre asked, having a smile creep up his face. She had the greatest laugh. She tried to contain herself to answer, but she just kept on laughing and finally rolled off the bed not realizing. When she fell she just kept right on laughing. Tre shook his head, but then began to laugh too. He couldn't understand it, but this whole conversation had turned into such weird turn of events that he began to laugh till' his eyes watered.
The two of them just laughing their butts off...at absolutely nothing.

Tre was playing "ninjas" with Frankito in the backyard while Layla was the announcer or narrator if you will. Tre was letting Frankito beat his butt, as they played with fake Styrofoam num chucks.
"Oh! And now Dr. Snowglobe is getting the living beejesus kicked out of him by Prince Dangerous Maximus! It looks like he's got him in a headlock using his awesomely powerful....uh...magic sticks!" Layla stopped after that trying to find a better way to word it not realizing that Frankito was unintentionally choking Tre to death. Layla looked up from her daze, before coming to the rescue of Tre who by now was screaming "ahhhh I can see the light!"
"Ok, Frankito that's enough ninjas for now," Layla reasoned with the hyperactive boy, gently releasing the num chucks from his grip and letting Tre be able to breathe again. He plopped his body on the grass and began taking huge gasps of air before looking up at Frankito and smiling..."let's do that again!"
Layla rolled her eyes before handing Tre the num chucks again. She couldn't argue with him and she loved watching them play together anyway. Tre was such a wonderful father. How his wife...or wives divorced him, she wouldn't know. Or she did, but she liked to tune out those negative thoughts, but before anyone could do anything a voice of a high pitch woman came wallowing through the screen door.
Ugh. It was Claudia. Layla shivered trying to keep her distaste for the woman at ease. Don't get her wrong, I mean she was a nice woman. A wonderful mother and things of that nature, but when it came right down to Tre having a girlfriend- especially Layla- She was a total bitch to her and not making life easy for the couple whenever she could jerk herself into their personal lives.
"I'm here for my son!" Claudia exclaimed more snottily than patiently. Tre looked up to see Claudia's face fake a grin. She did have a beautiful smile, but man was that woman a dishonest uncaring...well we don't need to go on, do we?
"Mommy!" Frankito shouted before leaping over to his mother and hugging her tightly. Claudia looked over at Layla sheepishly as Layla turned her head away trying to hide her jealousy and anger. Why was it that Claudia had to come right at this moment?
"Hey honey!....did they feed you good? You look a little skinnier than before, that's not good-"
"Mommy they fed me good! Lala even gave me an extra cookie before dinner and she also made this really cool chocolate cak-"
"Ok, that's enough Frankito," Layla stopped him before he could make her feel even more embarrassed. She wasn't trying to be mean, but just the thought of Claudia having another thing to nag her about made her stomach want to hurl.
"Is that right?" Claudia eyed Tre, who seemed to be lost in his own world watching an airplane pass them by at the sky. She sighed feeling defeated before taking her son's hand and saying promptly, "well we have to go now so go say bye to your father." Frankito jumped over to his dad who bear hugged him tightly. He really would miss little frankito. He really wanted to be there to see him ride his new bike, but Claudia was not going to have it happen.
"I'll see you later, little buddy. I love you, you know that right? And next time we will go to monster truck Sunday, just like I promised." Frankito grinned excitedly before shaking his hair wildly and giving his dad one more hug. Layla watched the two make a father-son connection that she had never seen before, and their love for each other made her heart grow ten times more. Frankito then turned to Layla and waved, "bye Lala!...your going to come with us...right?"
Frankito's question caught Layla a little off guard before she finally answered..."of course!" Frankito sucked up his mouth, which was another way of smiling for him. Layla laughed before waving her hand at him and blowing a pretend kiss.
"All right, that's enough, let's go Frankito. You've got a piano lesson to catch." Claudia butted in.
"I still don't see why he can't take drum lessons," Tre chimed in bitterly.
"We've been over this Tre! He DOESN'T want to!"
"How do you know, have you even asked him?!" Tre questioned. Layla really wished Frankito didn't have to witness this. She could see the look of sadness form from his face as Tre and Claudia began to fight or more like bicker. It was always like this. After every visit Tre and Claudia would go at it and Frankito would look down-cast as Layla would feel like beating each of the adults with a bat so they would shut the hell up and listen to their kid. But she never did...and she didn't intend to. Which made her feel even more like useless crap.
By now Claudia's temper was at an all time high as she grabbed Frankito and rushed him out with her to the car, but before she went out the front door she yelled, "this is why we are divorced honey! I hope you enjoy the asshole!" And with that you could hear the front door slam. It was almost earth shattering. After a couple moments of tension, Layla felt like grabbing Tre and shaking him into a sense of not listening to Claudia.
"What the fuck was that!" Tre shouted angrily, kicking a lawn chair, but only hurting his foot. He tried to calm himself down before finally sitting down and put his hands in his face and cried miserably. "She always does this. ALWAYS! Always has to make my life a living hell, and now she is going to make Frankito's a living hell!"
Layla let him vent before kneeling down over by him and pulling him into a hug, "it's ok babe, she's just mad that you've got the better bond with him."
Tre looked up at Layla and kissed her gently on the lips, "you're a star you know that?"
They both smiled at each other before heading back into the house hand in hand.

Later that night as the two were watching "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" eating popcorn, "enjoying each other's company," the phone rang. It made Layla jump, but just made Tre feel a little pissed that some one would call during their "really good time." Tre sighed as he was about to get up, but Layla made him sit. He shrugged his shoulders as she got up and walked into the kitchen for the phone.
"Hello?" Layla said.
"Layla?" she couldn't recognize who the person was on the other end of the line, but it didn't sound like they were happy.
"Yes?..." Layla trailed off not knowing what to say.
"This is Lisa. Is Tre there? It's really important that I talk to him..right now," her voice sounded weak and scared. Layla feeling like an idiot agreed to go get Tre, as Tre entered the kitchen area and grabbed the phone. He mouthed to Layla what was going on, Layla just shrugged her shoulders and motioned for him to talk to her.
He did so and his face turned five shades whiter. What was going on? Thought Layla. Why did he look so worried? Was everything ok? She could hear a distressed distant voice, but she wasn't getting anything to work with. She didn't want to seem like an eavesdropper so she left the room.
It seemed like ages before Tre finally got off the phone. He walked into the living room, normally he would be jumping up and down ready for sex or something, but the expression on his face...it made Layla shiver.
"....I have to go to New York...," Tre dropped the bombshell in a very straightforward tone of voice. Layla's mouth gaped open. What did he just say?
