A New Beginning, chapter 3
***Joseph's POV***
"Hey Joey go and get Melissa. She's babysitting Jakob tonight and me and your mother are leaving soon." called my dad from the bedroom. So I went over to Melissa's house to get her even though it was only 6 o'clock. I ran up to her door and knocked on it. Melissa answered it and I found myself staring into her green eyes. Wait a minute. This afternoon her eyes were blue, but now there green. Am I going insane I thought to myself. I was snapped back to reality when I heard her.
"Uh hello. Are you going to stare at me all night or what. Is there a reason you're here?" she asked.
"Oh ya umm my mom and dad are gonna be leaving pretty soon so you can come over. And if you don't mind me asking why are your eyes green now. They were blue before." I said as we started to walk back to my house.
"Oh colored contacts. See." she said as she took out her left contact now making her look like a husky.
"Oh o.k." I said as she put it back in and we walked into the house just as my mom and dad were about to leave.
"Oh hi Melissa. Jakob's bedtime is just whenever he falls asleep since he doesn't have school tomorrow. And we should be back around one in the morning or so if that's alright with you." said dad.
"Oh ya no problem. Have a good night Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong." she said.
"Oh please don't be so formal honey. It makes us feel old. Just call us Billie and Adrienne o.k." said mom in a sweet voice.
"O.k. well have a good night Billie and Adrienne." she said.
"Ya bye mom and dad see you later." I said and with that they both climbed into the BMW and took off. "Well do you want me to stay for a bit?" I asked her.
"Oh no it's alright I know you have plans so go out and have fun. I won't mind being with Jakob for a bit." she said reassuringly as she gently shoved me out of the door. I started to walk down the drive way and turned to look at her again. She just waved at me and I went to the park to meet up with some of my other friends.
***Melissa's POV***
Joseph just left and I turned to look at Jakob.
"Did you have supper already?" I asked him.
"Nope. Not yet. I want macaroni and cheese." he said as he walked off into the kitchen.
"O.k. easy enough." I said to myself as I followed him into the kitchen to find that he was being really helpful and had already gotten out the box of macaroni and cheese and was getting out the pot for it. He got it out and set it on the stove. "Thank you Jakob. How about I make this and you can go and do something for a bit and then we can do whatever you want when we're done. How does that sound?" I asked. He just silently nodded his head and walked off into the living room and turned the TV on. The macaroni was soon done and we ate it at the table. I cleaned up everything and found Jakob sitting on the couch watching TV. "So what do you want to do now?" I asked.
"Can we watch a movie?" he asked looking up at me.
"Sure what one do you wanna watch?" I said heading over to the movie cabinet.
"Can we watch Happy Gilmore?" he asked.
"Sure." I said as I put to DVD into the player and pressed play. I went and sat down again and we watched the movie. It was about 8:45 when the movie was over. "So what do you wanna do now?" I asked him as I put the movie away.
"Well Joey said that you played guitar. Could you teach me a bit?" he asked me. How could I say no to those big eyes.
"Sure. Do you have your own guitar?" I asked.
"Nope not yet. Daddy said he's gonna get me one next week." he said. "But I could use Joeys."
"Well I have 2 guitars at my house. Why don't you come over with me and we'll get both of mine and bring them back here?" I asked. As soon as I said that he shot up and headed for the door. We went over to my house and got the guitars. We went back and sat down on the couch and Jakob got Joeys amp from his room and we plugged them in. He wanted to play the dark blue one so I let him. We went over the strings first. "O.k. so now I'm gonna teach you the beginning to Smoke on the Water. It's really easy. Just play the 3rd and 4th string the whole time. Play it open then press down on the 3rd fret, then the 5th then open, 3rd fret, 6th, 5th, open, 3rd fret, 5th, 3rd then open and play that 6 times and that's the beginning of that song." I said. I sat there helping him and showing him how to do it on the guitar I was play and then he would try it. It was now about 10 o'clock when we put them down. Then Joey walked in through the door.
"Joey, Joey guess what, guess what." Jakob said excitedly to Joey.
"What?" he asked.
"Melissa taught me how to play the beginning of Smoke on the Water." he said as he ran over and picked up the guitar and started playing it.
"Wow you're really good at that. You're gonna have to show dad after." he said.
"Yep I know." Jakob said putting it back down and turning on the TV.
"So what can you play?" asked Joey.
"Well pretty much any of your dad's songs." I said as I picked up my light blue guitar and started playing Panic song.
"Wow I guess you can. Even I can't play that song and I'm his son." he said as he sat next to me. Jakob finally fell asleep on the couch around 12:30 or so. We just left him there to sleep. Both me and Joey were in a trance watching South Park when I noticed that we was staring at me. I turned to face him and before either of us knew what we were doing we were kissing. I quickly pulled away after about 2 minutes. "What did I do something wrong?" he asked in concern.
"Oh no it's just that. Well I broke up with my boyfriend back home because we knew the long distance thing wouldn't work and I'm not ready yet." I said. We just sat there cuddling and watching TV. The door opened and Jakob woke up.
"Hey daddy. Melissa taught me how to play the beginning of Smoke on the water." he said racing over to the guitar again and played it.
"Wow you're doing good. Maybe we should go and get your guitar tomorrow." Billie said. "Hey why is 'Blue' out?" he asked noticing the light blue guitar.
"Oh that's the one my old boyfriend gave me and he named it 'Blue' for me so ya. See." I said flipping it over showing him that there weren't any stickers on it.
"Oh. Well thank you for babysitting Jakob for us. I know if we let Joey baby sit there would only be one of them left." Adrienne said jokingly.
"Oh it's now problem." I said as I unplugged both of the guitars and picked them up. Billie paid me and I headed home. I went right up to my room and fell asleep as soon as I crawled into bed.

"Yep I know." Jakob said putting it back down and turning on the TV.
"So what can you play?" asked Joey.
