Dry Ice, chapter 7
We started walking to Mike's house. I had passed it before, but never actually went in it. The people who lived there before were kind of mean, so I had kind of avoided it in the past. We were almost to his house when it started raining again. Mike grabbed my hand and we ran into his house. When we got inside, I shook the rain out of my hair and set down my overnight bag.
"Okay. You want a tour of the place?" Mike asked.
"Yeah, that'd be cool." I answered.
"Alright. So, this is the living room." Mike said, leading me into a room with a TV, and two couches. His dad was sitting on one, reading a book. "Dad, this is Allie. Um... Allie, this is my dad."
"Hey Allie! Nice to meet you." Mike'sdad looked up at me and smiled.
"Nice to meet you too." I said back.
"I'm just showing Allie around." Mike said to his dad.
"Oh, okay," his dad said. Mike and me walked out, and he showed me around the downstairs. Then we went upstairs, and we went into his room. The walls were red, and he was pretty neat, for a guy. In one corner was a black and white Fender Bass.
"Cool! Is this your new bass?" I asked.
"Yeah. I've been practicing a lot, you know, for our band. Hey, we have a practice tomorrow morning. You wanna come here us?" Mike said.
"Sure, I'd love to!" I said. I had been wanting to hear them for a while.
"Awesome." We went downstairs, and into the living room. Mike sat down, and I sat next to him. Mike'sdad looked over at us, and Mike glared at him.
"Okay, okay. I get it. You want me to leave." His dad said, getting up. "I'll leave you guys alone. I'm going to bed." Mike'sdad rolled his eyes and went upstairs.
As soon as his dad was gone, Mike sighed and turned on the TV He flicked around channels for a few minutes, and then settled on a Simpsons rerun. We started watching for a few minutes, and then Mike put his arm around me. I moved in closer, and I looked up at him. He started to kiss me, and then his dad walked in. We didn't notice him at first.
"Jesus, Mike. Do you have to do that here? I forgot my book, and when I come down to get it, just look what I find!" His dad acted like he was pissed, but he was smiling.
"Sorry, Dad. But did you have to interrupt us?" Mike said, looking mad and embarrassed.
"God. Kids these days..." Mike'sdad mumbled, picking up the book and walking out.
Mike rolled his eyes, and I started laughing.
"C'mere." Mike said, and pulled me closer. We started kissing for real and this time, no one walked in on us. It was raining hard outside, and it was the happiest I've been since Lauren had left. When we finally pulled apart, I laid my head on his shoulder and shut my eyes. I had started to drift off, when Mike'svoice woke me up.
"Allie? Its past midnight. I think we should go up now." Mike said.
"Wha-oh, okay." I got up and followed him upstairs.
"Okay. So, you could sleep in the guest room here." Mike said, pointing to a room across the hall. "But... I have a big bed in my room, if you don't want to be alone." He said, grinning.
"I'll sleep in your room." I said, smiling.
"Good. I hoped you'd say that." Mike said. I went into the bathroom, and changed into a white tank top and red and black pajama bottoms. Then I went into Mike'sroom. He had on boxers and a black Ramones shirt. I happily got into bed next to him, and laid down. I was just about to fall asleep, when a big clap of thunder hit. I jumped, and Mike wrapped his arms around me and I buried my head in his chest. Its not that I'm scared of thunder or anything. I actually really like them. I get startled really easily though, and can be kind of jumpy. I felt kind of stupid for jumping like that, but whatever.
"Allie?" Mike said quietly.
"MmmHmmm" I murmured.
"I love you."
"I love you too, Mike." I said, smiling to myself. Mike hugged me, and I fell asleep immediately.
