Dry Ice, chapter 9
About 6 or 7 months had passed since the band, Green Day, had started. They were really, really, good too. Billie Joe had been trying to get them a gig somewhere, but it hadnt really worked out.
One day, we were sitting in math class. As usual, I wasnt paying attention, until the teacher started passing out the results of a test we had taken. I sat up straight, and the math teacher handed me the test. I looked down and saw an angry red F staring back at me. The teacher had also written a note saying to "please see him after class." I leaned back in my chair and sighed. I wasnt the best at math, but I had never acctually gotten an F on somthing before. My parents were really strict about my grades, too, and I knew if they found out, I'd be in deep shit. I glanced over at Mike's paper. He had gotten an A, of course.
After the bell rang, I slowly got up and walked over to the teachers desk.
"Um, Mr. Palmer? You wanted to see me." I said nervously.
"Yes, Allie. I'm concerned about your grades. Ever since the beginning of the year your grades have gotten worse and worse." Mr. Palmer said.
"I know, and Im really really sorry. I'll study harder, and pay attention more." I said quickly.
"I hope you will. I'm going to have to call your parents about this too. Maybe they'll have some ideas on how to fix your grades." He said.
"Okay." I said. Great. Now my parents were going to get involved.
"You can go now. Thanks for seeing me." Mr. Palmer said. I picked up my stuff and quickly ran out of the room, and headed to lunch. Billie was standing outside of the lunchroom, talking on his cell phone. He seemed excited about whatever they were talking about. I headed inside and sat down next to Mike and Adrienne.
"Allie! Whats wrong? You seem really pissed." Adrienne asked.
"I failed the fucking math test. Now fucking Mr. Palmer is going to call my parents, and Im going to be in trouble." I said.
"Aww. That sucks alot." Mike said. He hugged me, and I sighed.
"I hate math. Im not the best student, but its never been this bad." I said. Just then, Billie Joe walked in and sat down, smiling. Then he saw my face and looked concerned.
"Allie, whats the matter?" Billie asked.
"Got an F on the math test, and Mr Palmer is going to tell my parents, and Im gonna be in deep shit." I said.
"Oh. Well, I know somthing that will cheer you up. I just got off the phone with Tre, and he got us a gig at Gilman St! Its on Friday night, too." Mikes eyes light up.
"Really! Oh my god. Thats awsome. Im so fucking happy." Mike said.
"Cool! Wait, its on this Friday? Thats Allies birthday." Adrinne said. Oh yeah. I'd been so mad about school I forgot my birthday.
"Yeah, I know. Allie, you dont mind, do you?" Mike asked.
"No! That makes it even better. I cant wait to go." I said.
"Okay, good." Billie said.
