All My Fault, chapter 3
After I unpacked my stuff into my new room, I walked over to the mirror and brushed my shoulder-length brown hair. I looked at my reflection in the mirror. I looked strangely ordinary. My hazel eyes weren't as hyper-looking as usual.
Well, I thought, that's what ADD will do to you. But it really was weird, seeing myself... Not wiry. For the first time ever, I looked average, for me.
Just then Sam appeared in the doorway.
"Hey, you wanna come hang out in my room? My friend's over. She wants to meet you." Sam said, before blowing a piece of red hair out of her eyes.
"Uh... Sure." I said, kind of nervously.
As I walked into Sam's room, I was amazed at how... Cool it was. The rugs were black, the walls a bright orange... Guess she likes halloween. I took a seat on the floor next to a girl about my age with dark brown hair and eyes to match.
"Hi, I'm Adrienne." she said, "but call me Adi."
"I'm Haylie... But you can call me Haylie." I said with a smile.
After talking to Sam and Adi for a while, Sam asked the question I least expected her to ask.
"So, um... Whatever happened to your mom?"
I stopped and sighed.
"That filthy bastard downstairs left her back in New Jersey and flew me out here. I hate him for that."
"Oh. Sorry... I had no idea. I just..." Her voice trailed off and her face lit up.
"You wanna really piss him off?" she asked, grinning darkly.
"Always up for the chance. What've you got in mind?" I asked.
An hour later my hair was a deep purple. I grinned into the mirror.
"I love it!" I gushed.
"I knew you would. But I'm not done yet..." Sam said.
"What else are you doing?"
"Highlights. Green would look sweet."
Another hour later, after pissing Brad off as planned, we were heading off to meet Adi's new boyfriend. He was in a band, and she had met him on their tour. They lived pretty far, but that's nothing a bus ticket won't fix.
As we got off at the Berkely bus terminal, we saw a car outside.
"Oh my god Billie Joe! I didn't know you were picking us up!" Adi said through a smile.
"Us?" the guy in the drivers seat asked, "Who else is there?"
"Just my friends Sam and Haylie." Adi said.
"Uh... We've got a problem then." he said.
"What?"
"Mike and Tre are in the back... Which gives us only two extra seats."
At that Sam peered into the back seat. By the look on her face, I knew these guys had to be hot.
"We can squeeze in... Can't we?" she said, as more of a demand then a question.
"Sure! We don't mind." I answered.
Sam and I finally got ourselves situated in the back seat after about ten minutes. I looked over and saw two guys, that had to be Mike and Tre, laughing at me and Sam cursing and fighting for the middle seat.
I won.
Which put me next to a guy with bright green hair and bright blue eyes.
"Hi." I said, "I'm Haylie. That's Sam." I said smiling and pointing to Sam, who looked pissed because of our seating arrangement.
"I'm Tre." the guy with the green hair said, "and that, is Fat-ass McGee." He laughed, pointing to the guy next to him.
"Ignore the moron. I'm Mike." the other guy said, "Isn't that tight Tre?"
"Whatever you say fat-ass." Tre said with a grin.
We drove for about 10 more minutes, putting up with Mike and Tre arguing, and Billie Joe trying to shut them both up. Poor guy. We pulled up at Billie Joe's place, a pretty normal looking house.
Opening the front door, Billie Joe said, "Welcome to my mansion... Or shit hole. Whatever you wanna call it. But I think it's more of a shit hole."
After I beat Sam five times in spit (card game), she gave up and pushed her cards towards Mike.
"I'm not playing her! She dominates this game! Ask Tre." Mike said, leaving to go see what Billie Joe was doing.
"Oh, please. I can beat a girl at cards." Tre said arrogantly.
I beat Tre twice before he gave up, mumbling something about letting me win. We were all have so much fun, until Sam had to go and spoil it.
"Guys, we should go. It's getting late." she said with a sigh.
Billie Joe looked at the clock.
"No way you guys are taking a long bus ride, in this neighborhood, at one AM. Way too dangerous. " he said, thinking.
"Well what do you propose we do, Mr. Buses-are-too-dangerous?" she asked.
"They could stay..." Tre butted in. I thought I caught him glancing at me.
"We don't wanna inconvience you guys... No, we'll just go." Adi said.
"Hey, " Billie Joe said, looking at Adi adoringly, "You couldn't inconvience me... Ever."
Adi smiled.
"GET A ROOM!" Tre said loudly, laughing. "But seriously." he continued, "You guys can stay."
Sam sighed and got up.
"Are you sure?" she asked.
"Yeah, my mom and sister are out of town for the week. It's no trouble at all." Billie Joe said. Man, what a nice guy. And him and Adi make a cute couple.
"Well then, " Sam said, "Can I use your phone?"
"In the kitchen on the wall near the fridge." Mike said.
Sam called her house and left a message.
"So... Where do you guys live?" Mike asked.
"Well we live up in a shitty little suburb, north of here, me and Haylie." Sam said.
"And you guys know where I live." Adi said, smiling.
"Ok... What should we do with our time?" I asked.
"Anybody up for a movie?" Billie Joe asked.
Well, I thought, that's what ADD will do to you. But it really was weird, seeing myself... Not wiry. For the first time ever, I looked average, for me.
