The Stupid Things We Do, chapter 13
Part 13
The next few days go along fine. Although you're not quite sure what the grounds of you and Adie's relationship are, you're both having fun, and you're even more easy going around each other than before.
Thursday. You and Adie are watching TV in the living room.
"I'm thirsty. Do you want anything to drink?" she says.
"A cold one would be nice." You say as she walks into the kitchen.
She returns in a minute and tosses you a beer. You start to open it when you realize she hasn't come to sit back down on the couch. You look back at her and spotted the wet spot on her pants. Embarrassed for her, you turn away.
"Don't worry about it Adie. It happens to all of us. This one time, at a concert in Ohio... "
"Billie you dumbass! My water just broke!"
You look back at her stupidly. "Well... I guess... I should get you to... The hospital?"
"There's an idea! Smart thinking Billie." she says sarcastically, "Let's go!"
"Right." You grab your car keys and half drag half carry her out the door.
"Deep breath in, and out. Good. Just like you learnt in prenatal classes." The nurse says to Adrienne.
"Fuck that hurts like a bitch!" Adie exclaims.
The nurse smiles, "I'm sorry to say it, but the contractions will only get worse."
"Terrific. Just peachy." She replies sarcastically.
"If you need anything, just push that button and a nurse will come and help you." The nurse gives you and Adie another smile and leaves the hospital room.
You look back at Adie. "Would it be alright if I run across the street and get Starbucks?" you ask.
"Go ahead. Hurry back though. I don't want to be pushing out a couple of kids while you're drinking coffee."
You laugh. "Can I get you something?"
"Sure. Anything's better than the shit they have here."
"See you in a few."
It took longer than you expected to get your ice cap and Adie's strawberries & crème. As you walk back into the hospital wing, you stop outside Adie's room when you hear voices. They're arguing.
"... You aren't a part of my life anymore. I didn't need to tell you anything." Says Adie.
"Of course I'm still a part of your life! Just because we had one little fight, doesn't mean we ever broke up. I'm still with you." Says the other person. You've heard that voice before. Why can't you put a face with it?
"No, I'm not. I'm with Billie now, and you can't change it."
"Yes I can."
"What are you doing? No! Stop it! Let go of me!" Adie's voice has become frantic. You've heard enough. You pull open the door to find Alicia holding Adie down on the bed. Alicia turns to see you and lets go of Adie. You lunge at her, anger and hatred boiling inside of you. But you miss and she makes a run for the door.
