What? I Can Dream Too..., chapter 13

The next day, and Mike was home. He had spent most of the few hours he a been back streched out on the sofa, Hannah streched across two chairs and Tre lying spread eagled on the floor with Jo trying to engage him in a tickling fight. The TV was on, but no one was really paying attention.
"What's happened to Billie Joe and Lisa?" Jo was now flat on her back staring at the ceiling.
"Dunno...they dropped us off then fucked off." Tre was also staring at the ceiling.
"Hmmmm...they'll be back eventually..." Mike now had his head bent back against the end of the sofa, trying to see what Tre and Jo were finding so interesting.
"Yeah, Lisa'll get hungry. She can be as bad as Jo sometimes." the remote found its way to the side of Hannah's head with a bit of help from Jo.
"Thanks."
"Anytime, Jo my dear." Hannah stuck her toungue out before pulling herself up right and hopping out to the kitchen in search of something to drink, "Coffee anyone?" She yelled back to the others.
"You have to ask?!" Mike shot back.
"Fair enough, anyone else?"
Jo looked at Tre, who shook his head.
"Nah, we're OK thanks...can I have a biscuit though?" Jo shouted through to the kitchen.
Five minutes later and the scene had returned to what it had been before they'd started talking. But with added coffee and biscuits. All over the lving room thanks to Tre and Jo having a biscuit fight as soon as Hannah put them down.

The rest of the afternoon and most of the evening was spent staring blankly at the TV, flicking through the random magazines and books that were scattered around in various places in the room. this all carried on until about dinner time, when Jo dissappeared into the kitchen, returning a while later with armfuls of plastic containers, which she dumped on the blanket that Tre had been lying on, announcing loudly "DINNER!" before pulling the lids of most of the things and proceeding to pick at it like she was at a picnic, soon joined by the rest of them, something that continued for a good hour or two. By the time all the food had been finished and several trips had been made back to the kitchen for more drink, the hotel room was back to the tip like state it had been left in before they had left before. Mike soon had himself streched out on the sofa again, Hannah was sat on the floor with her legs streched out in front and her head leant back against Mike's legs. Jo and Tre were lying on they're stomachs, playing a slightly bizarre game of slaps that seemed to involve more arse than the traditional game...The room was mostly in silence, apart from the hum from the television until a strangled bleepified version of what could have been Bohemian Rhapsody sounded from Hannah's jacket pocket.
"Chuck it over Jo, I'll never get over there while its still ringing."
"OK, only if I can answer it if I recognize the name."
"Fine, just get the phone already." Hannah sounded like she was bored of her own ringtone...
Jo reached into Hannah's jacket pocket and pulled out her phone, glancing at the caller ID "God".
"What the hell! You have God's phone number on your phone?!" Jo was staring at the phone like it was possessed.
"That would be a certain Mr Armstrong." Hannah spoke as if she didn't quite realise what she was saying.
"WHAT! As in Billie Joe!?" Mike grabbed the phone out of Jo's hand and answered it, not waiting for a reply.
"Billie! Where the fuck are you?!" Mike practically yelled down the phone.
"Calm down Mike." The vloume on the phone wqas turned up high enough that everyone in the room could hear the other side of the conversation. "Me and Lisa went to visit some people, we're not gonna be back tonight."
"Where are you going to stay?" Mike was concerned.
"Ummmm..." They could hear Billie and Lisa talking on the other end, "Lisa knows a place round here, we'll be fine, don't worry."
With that the phone went dead, causing Mike to swear at it loudly and throw it across the room, sending the case and battery flying in different directions.
"Hey! Calm down." Hannah wasn't so much angry, but more concerned about Mike than anything else.
Mike was back on the sofa looking stressed as Hannah went and sat next to him, leaning her head against his shoulder.
"You know they'll be fine don't you?" It was more of a statement than a question.
Tre and Jo had moved out to the kitchen, both in search of something else to eat and something to cheer Mike up.
"Yeah," Mike shifted and leant his head on top of Hannah's, "I dunno, I guess I'm just worried. After what happened last time we went out."
"Yeah, I know what you mean, and I suppose it is Billie Joe and Lisa...I'm not sure I'd trust either of them as far as I could throw them..." Mike almost giggled at that.
Tre reappeared round the door frame, slowly walking into the room, producing a plate piled high with bits of chocolate cake.
"Here you go Mikey boy!" Tre grinned almost manically. "Something to cheer you up!"
"Ahhh. Thank you Tre. How ever would I live without you?!" Mike picked up a piece of chocolate cake, balanced it on one hand and picking at it with the other.
"Look, I'm going to bed now, I still don't know what that stuff they gave me for my leg was, but I'm knackered. I'll see you in the morning." Hannah dragged herself up off the sofa and grabbed her crutches, hopping through to her bedroom and shutting the door.
The room remained as quiet as it had been for most of the time they had been back from the hospital. How Tre and Jo had managed to stay as calm as they had done all this time was a mystery to everyone. Within a few hours, they were all in bed, alseep.
Much of Mike's night was spent in fitful sleep, the wound down his body from surgery making it hard to find a comfortable position and worry over the safety of his friends making it hard to properly rest.

The couple of days followed the same pattern. Mike woke first, slowly dragging himself into the kitchen and making coffee before settling himself on the sofa once again. Hannah got up next, doing exaclty the same as Mike, followed closely by Tre who would just collaspse onto either a chair or the floor before Jo woke at least an hour later and spend the rest of the morning watching cartoons with Tre.
Four days after they had returned to the hotel and Hannah broke the routine by waking first, her phone vibrating next to her head on the pillow.
"Myeh?" She definatly wasn't a morning person.
"Hannah?"
"Nope, tis the tooth fairy. WHatdyawant?" She didn't apprciate the distinct lack of awareness of the time this person had.
"Its Billie Joe."
"Ooooh, its yoooooouuuuuu..." Now Hannah just sounded slightly drunk.
"Yes, its me. Is Mike around?"
"No, I do belive he's still asleep...I'll check though if you want."
"Nah, its alright I'll talk to you I guess."
"Now I feel loved." Hannah interrupted sulkily.
"Yeah, I try. Anyway, are you guys having to go back to the hospital to get a check up later?"
"Well we sure as hell aren't going now..."
"Lisa said you'd be sarcastic, I didn't think she meant it."
"She did. Always trust the woman Mr Armstrong."
"Yeah, yeah. SO you're going to the hospital right?"
"Yeah, later."
"OK, well we'll meet you there."
"Really, you're going to grace us with your prescence?! Wow. I'm honoured."
"Alright, go find some coffee or something and we'll see you later OK?"
"Alright. Later."
The line clicked dead and Hannah hit the keylock button before putting the handset back in her trouser pocket and going to get some coffee.
