The Summer I Got A Life, chapter 15

I opened my eyes after resting them for a few minutes. As I groggily collected my conscience, I heard Tre singing "La de da de da! I've got coffee! La de da de da! I've got COFFEE!"
I rolled off of my bed and took a quick glance in my mirror. My hair was slightly tousled from the static of my pillow, so I ran a comb through it and grabbed my tea mug before I went outside to the hallway to see what Tre was up to.
When I opened the door, I immediately saw Tre doing some dance that looked semi-related to the Can-Can and then let out a screech as he saw me standing in my doorway. I then gave Tre a confused look and said as clearly as possible, "What the hell are you doing?"
Tre stopped in mid-kick and gave me a bug-eyed look. "I'm singing, silly!" he yelled out.
"Why?" I asked cautiously, and he replied, "Because of COFFEE! WEEEEEEEEEEE!"
"How many cups of coffee have you had?" I asked, slightly to moderately afraid.
"Nine! WEEEEEEEEEEEEE-nie! Haha! Weenie!" Tre screamed.
"Oh God", I muttered to myself as I wandered out to the living room. I didn't even want to think about what Tre might do on nine cups of coffee.

I entered the living room and fell into a lifeless form in the chair, which I had collapsed into so many times this summer. Billie was still on his cell phone. I didn't even want to think of what Billie had to be going through right now. Although no member of my family had ever had to go through a divorce, at least not that I know of, I still imagined that it had to be a heart-wrenching experience.

After a few minutes of zoning out in the chair, I grabbed my tea mug and walked over to the stove where the kettle was set up on the stove. About ten minutes or so later, Billie hung up his phone and muttered "Jesus Christ" to himself and sighed deeply. He then glanced up at me and asked "How ya feeling Kim?"

"A bit better, but not much," I told him. "I rested for a few minutes", I continued.
"Well, that's good," Billie said.
"Yeah, I guess. By the way, do you know that Tre is going crazy in the hallway?" I asked.
Billie cracked a smile. "Unfortunately, yes. Mike's locked himself in his room to get away from Tre", Billie said.
I laughed, which soon turned into a cough. While choking on my saliva, Billie walked over to me and rubbed my back until I quit coughing. I was comforting, to feel his warm hand on my back. "Thanks, Billie", I said when I could speak.
For the remainder of the day, I lounged in the chair, drank tea, and talked to Billie when he wasn't on his cell phone. Even though I wasn't ready to show him the photo album, I did tell him about my life during my childhood and school years back home. I told him about Mary and how we had been the best of friends since preschool; I told him about all of the stupid things we had done and what a huge miracle it was that either of us had made it to age eighteen. I told Billie of my dad and about school, with all of the insane teachers, the pointless crap we had done in some of the classes and the many dangerous encounters with Amber the Bitch and all of her cheerleader friends. And then, I told him about my mother.
"You would have liked my mom", I told Billie. "She was so cool, and so beautiful. And she got me my first Green Day CD". It was true, too.
Billie smiled. "What was her name?" he asked.
"It was Christine. Christine Anne Thompson. My middle names' Christine, after her", I informed him.
"So you're full names' Kimberly Christine Thompson?" Billie asked.
"Yeppers. And if you call me Kimberly again, I'll kill you", I told him.
"All right, whatever you say, Kimberly", Billie said.
I then jumped onto him and attempted to kill him, but jokingly, and soon we were in a playful wrestling match. Tre then walked out from the hallway to see us rolling around on each other. "Billie, are you being a bad boy? You know, you are getting a divorce", Tre said.
Billie and I both separated from each other then, blushing furiously.
As I was about to go to bed that night, I head Billie creep into my room with a cup of cherry cough medicine. "Your cough sounds worse than it did earlier. I brought you some medicine", he said indicating the small cup of red liquid.
"Thanks" I said to him as I drank the entire cup in one gulp. I tucked myself into my bed and then said "Goodnight Billie" as my eyelids closed.

Billie Joe stayed in Kim's room until he was almost positive she was asleep. "Kim?" he called out to her. Nothing. He stared at her for a moment. She was so beautiful with her long, dark shining hair and piercing blue eyes.
He walked closer to her. "You're so beautiful, Kim. If only you knew how I felt about you", Billie said. He then leaned forward and kissed her soft hair. He hesitated for a second before leaving Kim to sleep, saying "Good night. I love you".
