It's Comedy And Tragedy, chapter 8
When she reached the entrance door, someone had pushed it open without taking notice of Rai being on the other side.
"Ouch!" screamed Rai as she fell to the floor.
"OH SHIT! Sorry... ..Rai?" came a familiar voice.
"Danelle? Fuck c'mon, help me up!" roared Rai.
"Hey sorry, I didn't see ya there." Said Danelle extending her arm to help lift Rai off the floor.
"Were you at the hospital this morning? 'Cause you weren't in the hotel room?" asked Danelle
"Yea, I was just checking if Billie was okay, and to see if James was still there." Said Rai opening the door.
"Well is he?" asked her best friend.
"Yea, he's fine. Only another day till we can head over to his place." Replied Rai.
"No, I meant if James was still there."
"Oh, um... yea, but not for long." Replied Rai, with a frown on her face.
Rai pulled out the note from her pocket and handed it to Danelle. Danelle took it from her hand and read it rapidly, desperate to find out what her best friend meant by 'not for long'.
"Oh Rai, I'm sorry." Said Danelle leaning forward to give her friend a hug.
"Nah, don't worry about it. I'd rather stay here with you guys any day." Said Rai, giving half a smile.
"Okay, I'm hungry. Are you going to the hospital?" asked Rai.
"Oh, no its alright, I'll hang with you." Replied Danelle.
"Okay, thanks."
The girls walked in and Rai ordered her drink, Venti Caramel Frappuccino with extra caramel.(yum!) When Rai received her drink, they walked back to the hospital. They got in the elevator and headed up to Billie's room, yet again. They walked in and found Mike and Tre talking to Billie, and Adie at the table on the phone.
"Okay, honey, mommy has to go. I'll talk to you later sweetie! I love you too! Buh-bye!" said Adie into the receiver of her cell phone. She closed the phone and greeted the girls with a heart warming smile.
"Do you guys want to go shopping?" asked Adie.
The girls looked at each other and smiled.
"Yea! Sure!" replied Rai.
The girls waited while Adie told her husband that she'd be back soon, then they waved to everyone and shut the door behind them.
"So where are we going?" asked Danelle, as all the girls stepped off the last step leading to the hospital.
"Um, I have no clue! But I have Billie's car and... ..credit card!" Replied Adie with a gleeful smile on her face.
The girls walked across the parking lot to find Billie's black BMW. When they approached it Rai screamed,
"Shot gun!"
"Dammit to hell!" grunted Danelle.
Adie laughed at their childlike behavior.
******* Three Hours Later*********
The girls trudged up the stairs holding bunches of bags in their hands, some saying 'Macy's', 'Tiffany&Co.', 'Coach', and other stores. They laughed loudly talking about their recent shopping experience and also talking about their eagerness to see Billie's facial expression.
They reached the door and Rai swung it open. In the girls came carrying all the bags.
"Shit! Leave them alone for three fucking hours with my credit card, and this is what happens!" laughed Billie.
"Oh Billie! I have some surprises for you too." Said Adie, lifting up a Victoria Secret bag.
"Oh wow Billie! Looks like someone's getting laid tonight." Laughed Tre.
Danelle looked at Rai, who was looking at her back. They both knew what each other were thinking, "LUCKY ADRIENNE!"
Both girls started laughing hysterically.
"What?" asked Mike.
"Nothing!" said Danelle, her stomach hurting from laughter.
The girls eventually straightened out and put their serious faces on.
"Hum... . So what are we doing tonight?" asked Rai, quickly trying to change the subject.
"Well, I thought we'd ask the doctor to see if Billie is well enough to go home tonight." Said Adie
"Okay, that sounds good." Replied Mike
"Well hey, its only three o'clock. So if we start driving we can make it home by six, which gives us plenty of time to get the girls settled in yours and Billie's house." Commented Tre.
Three o'clock. Rai felt her face drop. This would be the last time she'd be able to see James. Billie looked at Rai and noticed something was wrong.
"Hey Rai, what wrong?" he asked.
"Oh, hey, you guys go ahead and ask the doctor without me, I have to take care of something right now." Said Rai.
Danelle remembered the note saying something about three o'clock.
"Okay. Hurry Rai, he could be leaving soon!" replied Danelle
"Wait, who's leaving, what? I'm so lost!" yelled Tre.
"It's okay Tre just shut up before you fuckin hurt yourself." Said Danelle while giggling.
Rai had ran out of the room and down the stairs, she knew the elevator would take too long. She jumped off the last step and pushed the hospital doors open. No one was there. She pulled out her cell phone and looked at the time, it was 3:10. 'Shit' She thought to herself. She ran towards the sidewalk to see if she could see a car driving away. She didn't see anything, except a something on the floor. She walked over to it and saw a red rose. She smiled to herself then picked it up. There was a note on it. She slipped the note out of the envelope and read the contents:
My Lovely Rai,
Don't feel bad about not coming with me, I understand why you wouldn't want to leave your family and friends behind. Just know that I love you! And nothing can ever change that! I realized this morning before I left that I never gave you my phone number, I'm such an idiot! Well here it is: 732-5936. Well give me a call sometime! When I come back to California, I'll be sure to look you up! I will see you soon! I love you!

Rai was surprised that tears didn't swell up in her eyes, but a smile did manage to come on her face. She walked back up the stairs to the lobby and rode the elevator up. She reached Billie's room and found everyone gone, but Billie was lying on the bed. She walked over and placed the rose she had received next to him on his nightstand. She smiled at him and sat beside him.
"Hey there gorgeous! Is everything okay?" asked Billie.
"Never better!" she said, with a smile on her face.
"Good I'm glad to hear that," said Billie.
Rai leaned back in her chair and stared at the rose beside her... a smile came to her face thinking of past memories she shared with James. Even though she only knew him for one day. He really was special to her, and he'd always hold a place in her heart.
