She Always Was His Girl, chapter 46

It had been three days since Billie Joe had more or less kicked himself out. Since then, he had been staying with Katie. On the morning of the third day, Katie went to go get the newspaper, which was delivered daily on her front porch step. But instead of just leaning down and getting her paper as she had always done, when she opened the door, she was greeted by a mob of paparazzi and reporters.

Katie slammed the door, not even bothering to get the paper and shrieked, "Billie! There are people outside.";

Billie Joe rushed downstairs in his boxers and asked, "What's going on?";

"I don't know, but when I opened the door, all these reporters and photographers started taking my picture and screaming."; Katie told him.

Billie Joe looked out the window to see the rowdy group of people who were waiting anxiously for one of them to come out of the house again.

"Oh fuck,"; he muttered, "I'm gonna call the police, okay?";

Billie Joe left the room to find the phone and called the police. Not long after, the cops arrived and escorted the people from the premises. Apparently the word was out: Billie Joe had left his wife for another woman!

The story definitely looked and seemed bad on Billie's part, but the people all across the universe who heard about it didn't know the history of Billie and Katie's relationship, and they probably never would.

After trying to relax about the whole situation, Katie decided to go back and attempt to get her newspaper once again. This attempt was successful, however, while she was glancing through it, she saw a section of pictures of herself and Billie Joe, and a headline that read:

GREEN DAY FRONTMAN, BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG, CAUGHT CHEATING ON HIS WIFE OF ELEVEN YEARS

Katie made her way into the kitchen, reading the article, and sat down at the table next to Billie Joe who was eating a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios.

"Umm, I think you need to read this."; she stated handing him the paper. He sat his spoon aside and took the paper from her. He read the article over at least three times and sat there silently.

"I guess our secret's out now, huh?"; she questioned.

"I guess so."; he sighed.

Billie Joe had no intention of it turning out this way. Hell, he didn't want his marriage to fall apart, but it was. It just couldn't be stopped. It was going to happen sooner or later, and doesn't everything happen for a reason?

Later that day, Billie Joe went over to his house that he shared with Adrienne in Oakland, in need of the rest of his clothes. He knocked on the front door, and it felt so weird to actually knock at the door of the house he actually owned.

Adrienne came to the door, and the small smile she was wearing on her face dropped when she saw who was at the door.

"What do you need?"; she asked meanly.

"I came for more of my clothes and other shit like that."; Billie Joe responded.

"I already packed it all for you,"; she started, "It's in the living room. I'll go get it.";

Adrienne started to turn away from her husband, but Billie Joe caught her arm, making her turn back around.

"Adie, I want to talk this out with you. We can't just be like this."; he said.

"We can't be like this, huh? Well, how else are we supposed to be, Billie? You cheated on me with some slut you slept with in high school, and you expect me to be your best friend now. Yea, right.";

"For one thing, we are intelligent adults who can handle a problem rationally and maturely, but you're being a fucking bitch and refusing to talk this out with me. And for another thing, she's not a fucking slut!"; he exclaimed, his temper flaring.

"You know what? I will talk this out with you...with a lawyer, and in my book, sleeping with someone else's spouse is a slut!";

Adrienne went into the living room, leaving Billie Joe alone in the doorway, and got his things, which she had thrown messily into three suitcases. She lugged each one over to the door.

"That's all your clothes, hair stuff, and all the other shit you insist you can't live without, and next time you decide to come over here, bring a lawyer as well. I don't want you in my house."; And with that, Adrienne slammed the door in his face.

He carried the suitcases to his car, and then drove back to Katie's house with tears streaming down his face. His marriage was over now, and it was his entire fault. As much as he loved and adored Katie, he still loved Adrienne. She had given him two children, and they had shared eleven years of their life together, and now it was gone.

Billie Joe arrived back at Katie's house, and let himself in with his belongings that he had went to get. Katie was lying on the couch watching an episode of the famous soap opera, General Hospital.

"How'd it go?"; she asked.

"Uhh, not to well."; he admitted with a saddened expression.

"Aww honey, it's okay."; Katie comforted while Billie Joe sat down on the couch on which she was lying on.

"No, it's not baby. What are my kids going to think about me now? I walked out on their mom pretty much. I'm such an asshole.";

Katie sat up and gave him a small hug. "You're not an asshole. It's more my fault than yours.";

"Katie, it's not your fault. Don't think that way,"; he told her patting her knee, "I guess it was going to happen eventually anyway. I mean she went out and got herself pregnant.";

Katie studied his facial expressions. He looked so damn upset. How could she blame him? His eleven-year marriage was over and there was nothing to help it. Apparently, Adrienne didn't want to patch things up with him. What was there to do?

A few minutes later, they heard a doorbell ring. Katie went to answer it and it happened to be Josh bringing back Carey and Cameron from their weekend visit. The two young boys hugged their father good bye and ran inside, leaving Katie there to talk to her ex-husband.

"Did they behave?"; she laughed.

"Do they ever?"; Josh joked.

Josh peered inside, not trying to be nosey, and saw a man with black hair sitting on the couch where Carey and Cameron had went to annoy the living daylights out of him.

"Who's that?"; he inquired.

"No one."; she answered rather quickly.

"I don't care, Katie. We've been divorced for a few years now. It doesn't bother me if you're seeing someone new now. What's his name?";

"Well, everyone else in California will know about it by this evening so I might as well tell you. That's Billie Joe.";

"Billie Joe? The Billie Joe from Green Day? The one you went out with in high school? "; Josh inquired.

"Yeah, that would be him."; said Katie.

"Oh man! I want to met him! Can I, please!?";

"This isn't really a good tim-"; Katie was cut off when Josh let himself into the house to meet one of his favorite musicians.

When Josh go to the living room where Billie Joe was, he stated the obvious, "You're Billie Joe from Green Day.";

"Yep, that's right."; Billie laughed.

"That's mom's boyfriend."; Cameron joined in on the conversation.

"Dude, you rock! I have followed you guys since Dookie came out, and then when I started I started to date Katie, her mother, Janice , told me that you guys used to date. Do you know cool this is to meet you? Green Day is one of my all time favorite bands."; Josh said while shaking Billie Joe's hand.

"Aw, thanks man! I appreciate it.";

The two men struck up a conversation while Katie just sat in a recliner across from them. It was strange about how they could just talk like that. Did Josh even know that Billie Joe was married, and that he had been cheating on his wife with Katie?

Finally, after about an hour of conversation with Billie Joe, Josh got up and announced that he had to leave. After shaking hands with him again, Josh went on his way.

"Well, that was pretty awkward."; Katie mumbled.

"You can say that again."; he responded.

Another two days had passed, and it happened to be Billie Joe's birthday. By then, news of Billie Joe's affair and possible upcoming divorce had been plastered all over every celebrity magazine and news show known to man, so by then, Tre also knew about it.

The three best friends decided to have a birthday celebration for Billie at Katie's house, since now they couldn't go out without being attacked by the media. They decided to go easy on their alcohol intake, considering Carey and Cameron were present, albeit asleep.

Being sober, the trio were having an intellectual conversation about Billie Joe's affair. Tre finally asked, "Why didn't you ever tell me that you were cheating on Adie? You told Mike.";

"Well, he caught me, so I actually had to explain it to him."; Billie Joe responded holding back his exasperated tone due to the fact that that was all that seemed to be on his two friends' minds.
"Why'd you do it though, Billie? Wasn't Adrienne good enough for you anymore?"; Mike questioned.

Mike had been rather upset since Billie Joe told him about his affair a few months prior. Adrienne was one of his best friends. She had always been there for the band; encouraging them when they came to rough spot on the road and congratulated them when the won awards.

"Mike, you have no idea how much I fucking missed Katie. I mean, I never stopped loving her...ever. I didn't go one minute, all those years, without thinking about her. I love her with all my heart."; he explained.

What Billie Joe didn't know was that Katie who had said she was going to bed a little while before, had stayed up and was eavesdropping on their conversation. She smiled at his statement and decided to finally go to bed happily, knowing that Billie Joe loved her with all his heart.

A few hours afterward, Katie was awoken by Billie Joe crawling into bed with her. She didn't even open her eyes, so he just figured she was asleep. He placed his arms around her and kissed her forehead.

"I love you so much,"; he muttered to his love, whom he thought was asleep, "I'm so glad I'm here with you. ";

The next day, Billie Joe awoke to his cell phone going off. Katie was already awake and downstairs, so Billie Joe tiredly rolled out of the empty bed and dug through the pocket of his jeans for his phone.

"Hello?"; he answered.

"Billie Joe, I called a lawyer. I want a divorce."; Adrienne replied back to him.

"Adie, please. Come on, don't you think we need to talk about this first. I mean, that's fine. I want a divorce too, but I'd at least like to fucking talk it over with you.";

"Don't you ever call me Adie again. Only people who love and care about me call me that, and you definitely do not do either of those things.";

"Fine Adrienne. Whatever, I thought we were both adults, but apparently not! And I'll call a lawyer too, and call you when I'm ready for the papers and all that shit.";

"Fine!"; she said.

"Fine!"; he responded and then hung up on her.

Billie Joe sat down on the bed and ran over the whole phone call in his mind.

"I'm getting a divorce."; he muttered under his breath
