She Always Was His Girl, chapter 53
Love is truly a never-ending thing. Once you have loved, you never lose it. It never dies. Individuals know what they need from others, whether it be love, companionship, or friendship. Billie Joe and Katie, however, had always been in love, and always would be, but something stronger repressed him from her.
Adrienne
It was July 2nd 2006; Billie Joe and Adrienne's twelfth wedding anniversary, on which they were renewing their wedding vows. Billie Joe looked longingly into his blushing bride's eyes, knowing that he would be with her until the day he died.
Adrienne, dressed in a soft pink sundress, looked back at her husband with the same gaze. He, dressed in a white button-up shirt, on which he had left the first few buttons undone and a pair of black dress pants, leaned in and kissed her softly on the lips.
The whole audience giggled at the sweet sign of affection.
Claudia, Tre's ex-wife, lightly bounced little Carmen on her lap. The youngster clasped her hands together sweetly at the sight of her parents' kiss. The couple at the front of the church continued to stare at each other lovingly and with every second, realized they were even more in love.
The subtle sound of the church door closing drew Billie Joe's attention. There, he saw Katie silently enter the church and slide into the back pew. He caught her eye and she smiled at him. He closed his eyes and let his mind drift to the times they had spent together.
Had they really been in love with each other?
He knew, though, that Adrienne meant more to him. He had been bound with her eternally through marriage, and wasn't about to give it up. He, of course, took care of Janelle as much as possible. He even still visited Katie just to see her every now and then. They're love had turned into an interminable friendship, which they still considered a form of love, and it was okay with them.
The song "You and Me"; by Lifehouse played softly over the church's sound system while everyone was awaiting for the pastor to enter to start the ceremony. Billie Joe had dubbed "You and Me"; their theme song.
He had once said, before the song ever hit the airwaves, "Everything you do is beautiful. All I see is you right now, and that's how it's always gonna be.";
After the song, the pastor came out, and the ceremony was about to begin. Billie Joe had been married to Adrienne for an eternity in rock star years, and now, as another testament of their love, they were going to renew their vows.
Twelve wonderful years.
Twelve wonderful years they had been together through sickness and health. Twelve wonderful years they had been together through all the trials and tribulations of everyday life.
Twelve years that they had loved each other.
Billie Joe's eyes darted back to Adrienne's as she began to say her vows.
"I take you Billie Joe, to be my wedded husband. I promise to be faithful to you, to give and to receive, to care and console, to inspire and respond, loving you now, but even more in your growing and becoming. I will love you when we are together and when we are apart, when life is peaceful and in disorder, when I am proud of you and when I am disappointed in you, in times of leisure and in times of work. I will honor goals and dreams, and help you to realize them. I will be open and honest with you, and join with you in seeking the fulfillment of our lives.";
A tear rolled down her cheek as she uttered each loving and sacred word, knowing that they were bound with each other forever. Then, Billie Joe got ready to say his vows to his beautiful wife.
"I, Billie Joe, promise to love and cherish you Adrienne, to give you my strength, to help you in good times and bad, to respect our individuality, to make our home one of love and understanding. I give you all of my trust, all of my tomorrows, and most of all, my life. I will share my life with you, and I will try with you to better understand ourselves and the world through the best and the worst of what is to come as long as we live.";
The whole audience was in tears at the sight of the two lovers. It almost seemed like they were falling in love with each other again, but deeper this time.
And then the words, "You may now kiss your bride...again.";
Billie Joe wrapped his arms around her and kissed her with every ounce of love within him. Adrienne wanted to stay there in his strong, protective arms forever. She loved the way she could fell his heartbeat pound against her own chest as he brought her closer and closer to him as they kissed.
Their lips parted, and Billie Joe grasped her hand and they walked out of the church together, as one. As their friends and family were clapping and cheering, they both realized something.
She always was his girl.
I know you're down again
and you see nothing but rain.
You put your friends through hell
and that's why we get along so well.
You see, I always was your girl,
it always will be you and me against the world.
We know the years can give romance
to the street where we once lived.
You wondered why no one called
between you and me, we scared them all.
You see, I always was your girl,
it always has been you and me against the world.
Maybe we're wrong and the world is right
but don't tell me that tonight.
Self-assured and abusing guests,
that's the way I like you best.
You see, I always was your girl,
it always will be you and me against the world
