Too Much Too Soon, chapter 18

"LET'S GO!" Billie exclaimed
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- David and BIllie decided to split up the driving time. Billie would drive for four hours, then David woud drive for four hours, and back and forth. It took them two day's drive s to get into Arizona, and it was there, that David reveived a call from his men. They spotted the kidnappers and Adrienne in Dallas. Billie couldn't believe that his wife and children were found. It was late at night, and David decided to make a stop at a hotel. Billie insisted that they kept driving, but David forced Billie to sleep. They rented a room with two beds, and an outdoor patio. Billie sat on the bed and *BZZT BZZT BZZT BZZT* went his phone.
"Hello?" He said, and David wondered if it was the men, then he heard Billie say, "OH! HOLLY!"
David groaned in disgust because Holly and David were not on good terms at the moment. The family had a reunion the past summer, and everyone showed up except David, who said he was busy doing work. She accused him of always working, never spending time with the family. David stressed his importance at work, and the two hadn't talked since.
"Billie, if that's Holly, go talk out on the patio! I don't wanna hear anything about her!" Billie obeyed and closed the glass patio door behind him.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Billie was still sleeping when David was awake. The sun was already outside, and coincidently, the sunrise shone through the glass doors of the patio. David pulled the curtains aside, and the room immediately filled with light. Billie then pulled the sheets over his head.
"WAKE UP! I just got a call from my men."
Billie drew the covers back to reveal the bags under his eyes and his unkept hair.
"They're gonna be heading to Austin today, which won't take them any more than four hours. From there they're gonna drive to the border. I'm hoping that my men are already there to stop them."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That day, David and Billie drove through New Mexico. Billie said he was hungry and spotted a gas station with a little food mart.
"Billie, we just ate!"
"Well, I'm a little hungry and very thirsty. Just pull over. It won't take me long!"
He gave in, and pulled in front of the mart, "Hurry up, okay?"
Billie oddly took thirty minutes in the mart. David was beginning to question what he was doing. There was a big black SUV parked two car spaces away. It had been there since they arrived. With the car still there, David wondered if that was an employee car or possibly the car of Billie's mysterious men. As David began to get out of the car to inspect it, Billie had exited the store, with a soda and chips.
"That's all you got after thirty minutes of browsing around in there?!"
"Sorry. I couldn't choose between Coke or Pepsi," Billie joked. David didn't laugh, and didn't bother asking what really went on. He was too eager to start driving. As drove he thought, that's odd, Billie is wearing his leather jacket in the hot weather, but he let it go. David claimed that he had driven through New Mexico before and said he knew a shortcut. Billie didn't like short cuts, and with his luck, it usually was longer to take a short cut. David insisted, and Billie gave in. They drove for hours and Billie's gut told him that they weren't going to get into Texas any faster. It was already dark, and David said that he must have missed a special turn, or something. Billie was beginning to get impatient, as they drove in the middle of no where. David stopped the car suddenly, and Billie looked at him with rage.
"What are you doing?!" Billie exclaimed.
"I didn't do it! I think we're out of gas!"
"Oh shit......"
