Too Much Too Soon, chapter 9
"Ma'am, this is Adrienne Armstrong's room, correct?" Billie said shakily.
"It was, sir."
The way she emphasized the word "was" made him choke, as he backed up towards the door. He ran into the doctor that he met when Billie came into the emergency room.
"Oh, Billie! Sorry for the shock. Adri was moved down to floor two, 211, which is good."
"Good?!"
"Yes, she's fine! She's just resting. It turns out that the shooter had a poor shot, and barely shot her in the arm. I don't know how she bled so much, but it was nothing serious. I thought I sent nurse Caitlin to tell you?"
"Oh well, I didn't let her finish her message. I thought something had gone wrong!"
"Hahaha."
Billie breathed a sigh of relief, but then remembered that she was pregnant.
"Doctor?!"
"Yes."
"Is the baby going to be okay?"
"The baby looks fine, and from what I heard, your baby will come at the end of September. Congrats!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Billie ran down the stairs again to reunite with his beloved. He slowly opened the door labelled 211, and found his wife laying in grace.
"Billie?"
"Hey. I was worried about you soo much."
"Yeah, it happened so fast and I-"
"Shhhhh..." Billie placed one finger over her lip and stroked her dark brown hair. Then, he grabbed a chair and sat by her side. Not long after, the two were fast asleep.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Good morning you two!" a familiar voice boomed through the door.
"DAVID!" Adri beamed, "Long time no see! How are you?"
"Oh same old same old. But the question is, how are YOU?"
"Just fine."
"Hey brother," Billie stood and gave his brother a hug. David was older than Billie and was the sibling that Billie felt closest to. David was always on the look out for him, and they were best friends.
"I heard the news," David frowned, running his fingers through his short brown hair, "The accident, and now this. It's a holiday for the media, Billie."
"Yeah," Billie said disgusted.
"Anyway, when are you going home?"
"Tonight. I hope Joey is okay." Adri replied.
"I'm sure the Burnes were watching him-" Billie said.
*Bzzt bzzt bzzt* his phone vibrated in his jacket.
"Hello?"
"So you see, your wife is not injured."
"What the hell are you doing calling me! After what you put me through..."
"I spoke to you last night. I told you our duty and our request. My other men will be calling you and keeping an eye on you as well."
"I never consented!"
"Whatever you do, stay away from your relatives as much as possible. You will pose much threat to them by being around them. Although, I see you are already breaking the rule. Your wife and brother are with you. We'll let this one pass. Tell anyone of our deal, this phone call, or anything dealing with our buisness, you will...well, you get the idea."
"NO! I am not going to avoid my family, and if anything, I am going to spend the most time with them as I can!" Billie's voice gradually increasing in volume. David and Adri exchanged glances of concern. Billie thought he had figured out the men's plan. 'They want me to avoid my loved ones so that they can attack them without me there to save them! They just wanna make my life hell!' he thought to himself, 'There is no way I am going to leave them.'
"OH, was that a challenge?" the man asked.
"You fucking bet it is!"
"I see. Very well then. Good day." *CLICK* they hung up, and Billie shut his phone and began pacing.
"Billie?" Adri said sounding as if she was going to cry.
"Don't worry about it. A journalist somehow got a hold of my number," he lied.
"Don't you just wanna bash their heads into a wall?" David remarked, but quickly regretted his comment, after he received a glance from Adrienne who looked as if she were going to scold him for his words.
*Bzzt bzzt bzzt bzzt* "NOT AGAIN!"
"Hello?!" Billie said irritated.
"Billie! OMG! Billie...*static*....I don't....*static*..."
"Melissa?"
"Is that Mrs. Burnes, Billie?" Adri asked.
"Yeah, but the reception is horrible!" he raced to the window for a better signal.
"Hello? Mel? Hello?!"
"What happened?!" Billie asked.
"OMG...*static*..."
"Can you hear me?"
"Talk to me!" Melissa Burnes screamed. Billie tried to respond, but was immediately cut off.
"What am I going to do?!" she yelled through the phone.
"Hang on, just hang on..." Billie said trying to calm her down.
The conversation sounded familiar again.......he had envisioned this conversation also! He was taking a smoke outside the tour bus, and he heard the conversation! He couldn't understand why or how these visions popped into his mind. All he knew was that he was going to take notice of them.
"Billie!"
"YES YES?"
There was a scream on the other line, and it sounded as if the phone had dropped. Panic flowed through Billie's body as he thought, "This is the beginning of one long, wild ride......."
"It was, sir."
