Walking Down The Line, chapter 31

<p>Tre chased Mike nad Billie all the way downt the corridor and out of the hospital and into the parking lot, where they fell in a heap by his car.<br />"I...hate...you...guys!" He panted at them, grinning from ear to ear.<br />"And I'm Mahatma Gandhi," Mike replied, recovering first and standing up. "So, where too now?"<br />"I feel like doughnuts."<br />"I could do with a coffee. What about you Bill?"<br />"I feel like pancakes, but Adie's making dinner, I should get home."<br />Tre pouted at his friend.<br /> "That sucks. Oh well, we'll drop you of then me and Mikey boy can go have fun." An evil grin crept onto his face at this, and the bassist backed off, looking scared. <br />"Tre, no, down boy!"<br />Billie Joe just laughed at them, and fished Tre's keys from his pocket.<br />"I'll drive to mine, let you two have some time in the backseat..."<br />"Fuck you Armstrong!"</p>
<p>"I'll phone you tomorrow, later guys."<br />Billie waved after them as they pulled away fom his house, then went inside. He was met at the door by a kiss, and suddenly felt light and carefree, knowing he had done his good deed for the day.<br />"Right, where's the nearest Starbucks?" Tre turned to Mike. "You should know."<br />"Tre, watch the fucking road!"<br />He swerved to avoid an oncoming car, and grinned guiltily.<br />"Sorry Mikey boy."<br />"You will be," the bassist growled. The drummer raised his eyebrows.<br /> "Is that a promise or a threat?"<br />"I...shut up! We've been through this. Right, let's see....we'vejust left Billie's....nearest Starbucks is Telegraph Ave."<br />"Right, we're off!"</p>

<p>Sitting in a window booth, Tre munching away on his doughnuts and Mike sipping at his mocha, it seemed like nothing at all was wrong with the world. Tre was smiling and laughing at Mike's jokes and comments, happier than his friend had seen him in a while.<br />However, all of that was about to change.</p>
