Walking Down The Line, chapter 4
They arrived outside a tower building twenty minutes later, and Tre jumped out the car, but Em stayed put. She saw him talking to Mike and Billie. Every now and the, they would glance over at her, and she'd quickly look down at her feet.
She sighed, and pulled her mobile out of her pocket. No messages, no missed calls, not that it surprised her; no-one loved her anyway.
Em jumped as she felt a hand on her arm. She looked up to see Billie Joe standing in the open car door.
"Hey, you ok? You coming out, or are you gonna sit her all day looking sorry for yourself?"
"Um, well, I feel like I'm in the way," she replied, not looking at Billie, instead she glanced over at Mike and Tre, who were now pissing themselves laughing over something.
Billie chuckled, and laid a hand on her cheek, turning her head so she was looking directly into his eyes. "If you were in the way, we would have taken you home. When we were back at the cafe, when Tre and I went to the bathroom, he told me about the feeling he had, that something good would happen with you around, and believe me, he doesn't get feelings like that alot. He's been really down lately actually, not that you'd notice, but he has the child'like ability to hide it. Your good for him, I know you are, I can feel it too, so please, will you come into the shoot with us? And don't worry," he added, glancing over at Tre, who was now watching them. "He won't do anything too crazy to you, I promise."
Emerald smiled, and undid her seatbelt, sliding from teh seat, and closing the door. Tre came over and gave her a hug. "Right you, come on, inside, we haven't got a moment to waste!"
"Oi, Tre!" Mike yelled as he dragged Em inside. "Don't be too hard on the poor girl!"
* 2 hours later *
"Tre, can I take this damn blindfold off yet? Surely you're finished doing whatever you were doing to my hair?"
"Just a sec. Ok, ready? Three, two, one, ta-da!"
Emerald gasped. Now all her hair was green, not just her fringe, the same green as Tre's hair had become.
"Oh my god!" she screamed, jumping up and showering Tre in kisses. "Thank you! I love you."
Mike burst out laughing again, and Billie looked up from the paper he had been puring over.
"Nice," said Billie. "Well done Tre, you did a good job."
"Cheers man."
"Are we all ready to go get changed now?" Mike put in. "I think the costume department's ready for us."
"Cool. Come on Em, your gonna be our lil punk princess."
Emerald looked at Tre, trying to work out if he was joking, but his eyes said it all. She burst into tears.
"Hey, come on, it's ok. You don't have to if you don't want to."
"It's just," she mumbled, accepting the hankercheif from Tre. "This morning I set out to kill myself, and now I'm about to do a photoshoot with my idols. It's kinda mindblowing."
"Hey," Mike said, taking her hand, and she looked up at him. "Life's hard, we know that more than most people, but you have friends now, we're here for you, try and forget about it. Now come on, it's time for the fun to begin!"
They all started laughing, and headed off towards the elevator to take them to teh next stage; costumes.
