Things Change, chapter 1
Chapter 1 - Rachel
Rachel Johnson hated what she was doing. More importantly, she hated who she was. She hated how just because she was pretty, she was popular. Every day she faked the smiles and laughs with her fake friends. She faked the romance with her fake boyfriends. Mainly, she faked her life, including her happiness. Rachel wanted friends who shared the same interests as her - for example, her love for music. She could play a numerous number of instruments: everything from guitar and drums to flute and clarinet. Rachel wanted to be those kids who dropped out of high school and lead a life rocking out in front of millions of screaming fans. Really, who needed school? That would prove to be difficult. Though Rachel lived with her mom in the poor "Dogtown" of Detroit, her mom had dreams of Rachel going to college and being something successful, like a lawyer. Rachel never had the power to say No to her mom.
The other reason why Rachel's dreams would never be fulfilled was, again, because of her popularity. She'd been sucked into the popular clique as a mere freshman in high school. And the harder she tried to get out of it, the more she found herself wanting to impress her "friends". She found herself still dating the stupid football jocks. By the time junior year came around, Rachel had given up and pretty much figured she couldn't try and screw around with fate anymore.
But one September afternoon, on her way home from school, Rachel saw her chance to escape from this black hole she was in. She saw it right in front of her nose and grabbed it while she had the chance.
His name was Matt.
