Don't Wake Me Up., chapter 1

It was another average day in the Armstrong residence. The kids went to school, Ollie went to Rod's for her shift, and Andy went to his job. It all seemed like a normal day, that is, until Andy walked in to bare some bad news.

"Ollie can I talk to you for a second?" Andy said as soon he walked into the door of the house that smelled of sugar and cinnamon.

"Sure honey. Let me just wash my hands." Ollie said with the usual warm simle that was always on her lips.

After she dried her hands she went into the family room where she saw her usually strong and happy husband sitting on the couch with a face that could have torn her heart out if she new what lie beyond it.

"Honey I went to the doctor today."

"Why? Are you due for a check up?"

"Um... No honey. I went today to confirm something."

"Confirm what, Andy?" Ollie's voice was rising with fear. She didn't know what to expect to come for her husband's mouth next.

"Honey, I'm sick. I have... Cancer."

Ollie's bright eyes turned gray at the words. She was speechless, the tears came rolling from her eyes like rain. She silently sobbed for her husband that was knelt beside her holding her in his strong arms tears forming in his eyes as well.

A good 20 minutes passed before the shock was over.

"How are we going to tell the kids." Ollie thought to herself. "David, Allen, Marcy, Holly, Anna, and Billie Joe deserves to have a father. They deserve it..." Thoughts were in a whirl wind in Ollie's mind. Billie, being the youngest at only 8 years old, has had bearly anytime spent with his father.

At dinner Andy and Ollie were looking at each other trying to find a right time to break the news to the children, but there's never a good time to tell your kids that their father has cancer. At the dinner table David and Allen were arguing over who got the last roll and Billie Joe and Anna were playing patty cake while Holly and Marcey were debating on who was going to win the fight over the roll.

"David you ALWAYS get the last one. Why can't I have it!?"

"Because your younger than me and I always get what I want! And Allen, don't forget it!" David obviously hurt his brother's feelings because Allen was tearing up.

"God, for an 11 year old you are such a wimp!" David said shoving the last roll in his mouth."

"BOYS!" Andy was not the type of person to yell, but when he did he got everyone's attention.

"Kids I-I have some bad news..." Ollie said trying her best not to shed a tear.

"Your father has been to the docter today and they have told him that he is sick." Ollie finshed the sentence waitng to hear millions of questions. To her suprise only Billie's small, sweet voice said "How sick Mommy?"

Billie, kids, I have cancer." Andy said. He thought in his mind that it was a train wreck. The kids were sobbing their eyes out, Ollie was trying her hardest to keep strong for the kids, but soon after she collaped into tears. The next hour seemed like an eternity for the Armstrongs'. The sorrows of the family could have torn your heart in half. Such a good family, with pure hearts and the sweetest personalitys, slowly turning bitter.
