The Tale of Time and Love, chapter 4
I sat in the living room waiting for Billie to finish on the phone. I didn't want to intrude on his family business, it would be rude to home in on his private life. Even though I knew lots about him I didn't know him as a person so I let him do his own business. I looked at my feet, I was wearing odd socks again, I sighed and smiled briefly. I wore odd socks to show my oddness. I ignored Billie's voice next door and watched the TV. I picked up the remote and I flicked through all the TV channels. I stopped at MTV, it was the Music news. I was shocked to see the older version of the boy with me on TV. The presenter's voice filled my head.
"... so Green Day will be playing in London tonight with a selection of alternate rock bands such as the Foo Fighters, Kaiser Chiefs and Feeder. Many more will be playing tonight. Now lets go to Carrie Brightman who's there today." I shook my head with disbelief. I didn't have tickets but I was going to that gig tonight and Billie was coming with me.
Just on cue, Billie Joe put the phone down and walked into the living room, which a look of determination and a pinch of happiness. I was quite surprised because ever since I met him he had been stupefied and confused. I stood up and turned off the tele with the remote. I fished into my pockets and pulled out my purse. I looked inside, I had around eleven quid in there... it was enough to by train. My parents were away to Brighton to see some sort of opera so I had no means of transport at home.
My brother was at his girlfriend's house so it was just me and Billie Joe. I smiled at him, thinking of how to break the ice.
"So how did it go?" I asked him, even though I knew where his present self was. Billie Joe smiled at me, I could help but smile too.
"He-I mean, I'm in England, there's a gig in London tonight. I suppose if we make it tonight then I'll be home by dawn." He said, his voice sounded much brighter. I nodded, then I glanced at the weather and sighed.
"We can make it by bus or train. Lets just hope we don't bump into any hysterical fans." I said, walking out of the living room and down into my own. Billie Joe followed me like a lost puppy, well then again he was sort of lost. I opened my cupboard and I grabbed I nice thick coat. I then pulled on some shoes.
I paused in front of my mirror, I looked awful. My mascara had run in two black streaks down my face. I quickly picked up my towel and scrubbed at my face. When all the mascara was gone, I picked up my eyeliners and drew the black around my eyes. I then turned and looked at Billie Joe, who seemed to be gawping at me. He noticed and cleared his throat. I blushed, he was... well... admiring me. I led him out of my room and quickly got him a coat of my brother's. He was wearing his won shoes I saw.
"Are you ready?" I asked him, smiling broadly. I could help being excited. I still had gotten over what I was doing, it felt like some weird dream. I felt like I was floating aimlessly around but I wasn't. I hurried him out of the house; I knew that the bus should be coming up my road in any second. I locked the door and I walked purposefully to the bus stop. Billie Joe was behind me, he was jogging slightly to catch up.
I managed to cross the road in time, the bus was racing up the road. Billie ran on the pavement, the bus on his heels. I laughed as he panted next to me. We queued up to get on the bus, I looked at my watch. It was three o'clock; it'll take about three hours or more to get to London. Enough time, I thought.
"Two tickets to London please." I said to the driver and I gave him a fiver. He grunted, he was fat and looked like he regularly ate at McDonalds. He passed me my change and the tickets. I nodded to Billie and he walked further down the bus to the back. He slid to a window seat; I was a little annoyed because I wanted the window seat. But I had to make exceptions for Mr. Armstrong.
The bus pulled out of the lay by and made its unsteady way down to the highway. Billie gazed out of the window; I guessed that he had never been to Britain. But then again it was years from his time so it must have looked weird. I couldn't keep my eyes off him, I had a strange feeling that I would act like this. But at that moment, it was just me and him, no one else mattered. I noticed that my hand was making it's way towards him but I didn't pull it back.
I touched his shoulder, it was warm but why wouldn't it. He turned around to look at me, his green eyes fixed on me. I remember when I used to watch him at concerts on those huge screens they have. When he used to sing 'Wake me up when September ends' there was a deep sorrow in his eyes. I saw it now and it made my mouth dry.
Without knowing what was happening, with no control. I found my arms twining around his body, but his arms were wrapped around me. I found myself lost in his eyes, I felt like I was ripped from my body and floating above like an angel of some kind. His face was close to mine, I could feel each breath on my skin. Then it happened. His lips found mine and like clockwork we were kissing.
I don't know how long it lasted, it was like it lasted forever. I was elated and so happy. I had never felt like this before, even though I have had many relationships. We gentle unravelled and seat quietly, sill looking at each other. My hand was in his, warm and soft.
The bus then stopped at the next stop. I looked out and sighed.
"one stop down, twenty or so to go." I said, he I looked back at Billie and we hugged again.
