The Tale of Time and Love, chapter 5
I looked at my watch for the tenth time in the same minute. I was getting very impatient, we were just entering London. It seemed like the bus journey had lasted for months. I looked at Billie again, he had been staring at me. Every time we looked at each other, I felt my heart race. I knew this should be a dream but I hoped it wasn't because I had never left so in love. We had only met for two hours or so but I felt like my whole life was waiting for this moment.
I wondered what Billie Joe thought, it must be strange to him. Appearing in an unknown place in an unknown time. Then someone coming over and saying that you were their idol and that you were famous. Then falling in love with them, a person you hardly know. Maybe love at first sight was real, well it had to be.
The bus stopped again, I looked out the window and saw a sign 'Rock concert, first left' It said, I leapt out my seat and jabbed the stop button so the bus driver didn't leave.
"Come on Billie!" I said, grabbing his hand and my bag. I pulled him out of his seat and then lead him down the bus. I thanked the driver then leapt off the bus and into a puddle, it splashed Billie. He groaned but smiled at me. The bus door shut and then it drove off and down the road. I pulled out my umbrella and opened it out. It wasn't raining hard in London but I wasn't in the mood to get wet again. Billie huddled under my brollie. I pointed the sign to him.
"Not far to go." I said, then nodded my head towards the first left. It wasn't too far. Billie looked a bit nervous, I put my spare arm around him and then I set off down the puddle ridden pavement. We reached the turning quickly, not staying to near the edge of the pavement because there was big puddles which cars splashed in.
We walked down the left and I saw a big hall in the distance, I grinned at Billie. I was both Nervous and excited. I knew that it wasn't going to be easy getting to Green Day. I saw as we approached there was a crowd growing. I then had an idea.
"Ok, I have an idea. I have a feeling that Green Day are inside because apparently the gig starts at seven and its half six. I think we can get to see Billie-I mean you by you pretending to be your son." I stopped, knowing how confusing that must sound. Billie didn't say anything but he looked a bit confused. We reached the crowd, i looked around for a way inside but I looked like the doors had shut. I swore under my breath. I then saw I saw an alleyway going down the right side of the building. I walked towards it, keeping the umbrella on Billie. At least one of those fans could recognise Billie. The alleyway seemed to be where the bins were kept. I then saw a door... a fire escape.
I then pulled Billie in the alleyway, it smelt of old garbage and shit. Billie's face looked disgusted, I then smiled at him. The door was made of a rusty metal, it was painted a horrid mint green. It had the fire escape sign painted on in red. There was no handle, so there wasn't must hope in opening it. I pushed it but it was never going to budge. I sighed and looked at Billie. He shrugged then he walked up to it.
Something in the door clicked and it pushed out so it was ajar. I stood, stupefied, looking at Billie. He merely smiled, he didn't know what happened. I laughed briefly then I opened the door a little wider. It opened out onto an empty corridor. The carpet was brown and the walls were cream. It was just like a typical corridor. I folded down my umbrella and shook it off. I then put it in my bag, walking inside the corridor. Billie was behind, his eyes were wide. He then shut the door behind him gently. Now where to go from here.
"What do you think you're doing?" said a woman walking out of a room nearby. She was frowning at us, she looked like the kind of person who you don't want to anger. Billie Pushed past me, a grin on his face.
"I'm sorry, I'm looking for my dad. We got kind of lost, we were looking for the dressing room thing." He said, making his accent more pronounced. The woman stared hard at him. I then took hold of Billie's hand.
"Never mind, me and Joey will look ourselves." I said, moving past the woman. Billie was now informed of his son's name, the name who he was pretending to be. The woman's eyes widened.
"Oh, Joey? You must be Mr Armstrong's son. I can take you to him, if that will help." She said an odd smile on her face. We both nodded and followed the woman. She was leading us down the corridor and through another. The venue was huge, it was like a maze. She then stopped at a much nicer corridor, the walls were painted a warm yellow. They were the dressing rooms, each of the doors had a little gold star and a removable plaque. The woman stopped outside the door with 'Green Day' on the plaque. My nerves were jangling inside but they were nothing compared to Billie's.
"I'll leave you here." She said, then turned off and left them quite alone. Billie looked at me with a nervous look. I supposed that he wanted me to knock. I took a deep breath and then knocked on the door twice. A voice inside spoke.
"Who is it this time?" it said, male and American. I recognised it as Tre Cool's voice. I looked at Billie and then winked, my confidence was flooding back.
"A visitor for you, he's travelled far, in fact from Oakland." I said, making my voice sound clear. Billie's hand found mine and quickly kissed my cheek. My heart raced again and I tried to ignore it. There was silence for a while, and then the door opened.
