What's Wrong With the World?, chapter 1
...The most boring, though shortest, practice ever! After 15 songs that were never on the charts, the three band mates were free!
"So, what to do now? We have so many choices!" Mike said. He was very bored with that particular practice so really he needed to do something.
"So how much coffee have you had today? What, 5 cups? Oh, now I understand." Billie Joe remarked.
"We could go shopping!" Tré suggested, sounding excited.
"Ok, we could do that. Um, where?" Mike asked. He was kind of confused. Where would Tré's strange mind lead them? Mike thought of the weirdest places he could think of. Ooh, that's unpleasant, thought Mike. Meanwhile, Tré was also thinking. So many neat stores, so little time! The grocery store on the corners nice. Wait, no, We could go to Trader Joe's! Billie Joe would feel special there. Or maybe not. Hmm, oh! We could ask him! Thought Tré, thinking in a hurry. Billie Joe was too busy driving to pay attention. Tré broke the silence.
"Billie Joe! Where do you want to go?" There was a pause.
"I want to buy some lasagna ingredients. I like cooking sometimes, and today I feel like eating. We could get some root beer too." Billie Joe said calmly.
"Well, if you do, can we at least do something special to it? Maybe fry some squash to put on top in a smiley face pattern?
"That would be cool." Mike added with some amount of uncertainty in his voice.
"Well, yes, that would be different. And if we do that, the kids could help. A family dinner!" Billie Joe congratulated.
"Yeah," Tré sighed. "Fun. Veggies." He sounded bored.
"Don't worry, Tré, I got that figured out. After dinner the kids can make a yummy dessert. The question is, what will it be?" Mike answered.
"Ooh! Uh, lemme think. Yes! Brownies! The best brownies ever!" An hour later they were at the Armstrong home with all four parents and all five kids, all persons psyched up or stressed out about dinner. The squash was cooking, so was the lasagna. The brownies were to be baked after dinner so the guests and hosts could digest. Joey and Ramona were doing most of the cooking, While the smaller children were giving loud directions or watching. Billie Joe and Mike were doing the lasagna and Adie and Tré were supervising the kids. It was a very loud scene, and very hot in the kitchen. Dinner itself was not peaceful. Some were not too keen about the squash, which should be light brown but was more of a milk chocolate color. The lasagna was fine, not done with expertise, but edible. The adults talked mainly about what was to be done with concerning the Armstrong's yard, while the kids talked nonstop about brownies and how fun it would be. Of course, Tré was talking with the kids because he was the dessert master. After dinner, the party came across a problem: there simply was not enough spoons to stir the batter. Tré willingly gave up his spoon to avoid conflict. All else went smoothly. The brownies were about to be eaten when a breakout of the word "Ew!!!" Broke out. The burst came from Frankito. He had tasted it, and was not happy. The rest of the kids ate it and made faces. What was wrong?
