Waking Up, chapter 2

The door banged shut and there was yelling coming from the other room. He glanced at Ella. She calmly continued to eat, looking completely oblivious.
"Erm... Ella?" Billie started. She looked up.
"I know. Just ignore it. Angela is the Empress of Drama, forget queen." He nodded.
The shouting became louder and something smashed. Ella ran into the other room, Billie following closely.
"You are such a bitch!"
"Oh yeah? Like you didn't go fuck that girl from the concert!" A girl a bit older than Ella was screaming, her face blotchy and red; the guy turned even more red. A vase lay on the ground in shards. Ella jumped between them.
"Stop! Stop it now!" They ignored her shouts. Both stepped around her.
"You don't have to go and kiss my friend! You could have brought it up with ME!"
"Yeah, and you'd have admitted it! You fucking asshole!" She screamed back. Billie just stood there. It was sorta scary.
"You are shitty tramp! You don't know what the fuck love is! I LOVED YOU ONCE!"
The girl Billie assumed was Angela, stopped, staring at him. Ella took the opportunity to sit them both down on facing couches.
"You... You loved me?" Angela repeated in a gentle voice. Ella just rolled her eyes and left. Billie followed her like a confused dog.
"Does that happen often?" Ella shrugged.
"I guess. I mean, she's been 'in love' so many goddamn times it makes me sick. And when she loves someone, she is obsessive about it," He nodded very slowly.
"Have you ever been in love?" He asked quietly. Ella jerked her head up and stared at me with her big eyes.
"Once."
"With who?" He couldn't help but ask. But once he did, he regretted it. Her eyes filled with tears.
"Can we not talk about it?"
"Of course. I'm really sorry, I mean--"
"So, what did your friend say?" Ella cut him off and changed subjects smoothly. Billie looked at her.
"Oh. My band is touring, so I had to find out when we're leaving," He waited for the obvious question, but it didn't come.
"When then?"
"Dunno. Driver quit so we need to find a new one," She laughed.
"Do I want to know why he quit?"
"Probably not,"
"Are you going to meet up with them?"
"Who?"
"Your band mates, idiot. Were you paying attention?" He hadn't, really. He had been watching her eyes, the way she moved, her smile. He snapped back to conversation that he had been only half-participating in.
"Most of the time," he smiled. She gave him a questioning look but gave up. She put her plate in the sink, then turned around and just watched him. Billie felt himself turning red.
"You're making me nervous," he complained. She giggled.
"It's so easy," She grinned. "Are you going to answer the original question?" He frowned.
"Mike will probably kill me if I called again. He sounded more hung over than I was when I did last time. And he's that bad, Tre is worse,"
"Mike and Tre are the bassist and drummer, correct?"
"Yeah... How'd you know?"
She shrugged and smiled. "Green Day isn't a secret," Billie blushed.
"So. What do you want to do?" He shrugged.
"Hmmm... Indecisive, are we? Follow me," He obeyed, following once again. They went down a hall and into a large room that had big windows on one wall and more couches. Ella threw herself down on one and closed her eyes. Billie watched her for a moment before sitting on another couch. He continued to watch her, she seemed so peaceful, just laying there, her chest rising and falling slowly. Suddenly her eyes opened and she sat up.
"God, I'm tired," She said with a small smile.
"Then sleep. I should probably too," She gave him a small smile.
"Thanks. I'll get some blankets," She left and Billie lay down again. Drifting into sleep again he felt someone tuck a blanket around him and kiss him lightly on the head. At this last action, his eyes flew open, staring into Ella's eyes.
