Just One Date, chapter 1
My story starts on a cold day in mid January. I am sitting in a bar in Oakland with all of my friends.
"Ok look over there at that guy." My best friend Manda pointed to a very sad looking guy sitting alone at the bar.
"Carrie I dare you to go over there and talk to him."
"Ok hold on." I picked up my Cosmo and began to walk toward him. As I got closer I had a strange feeling I had seen him before but I didn't know where.
"Hi is this seat taken." I asked
"What? Oh no. You can sit here." I sat down still thinking of were I had seen him.
"So what's wrong?"
"I really don't want to talk about it" he answered. A hurt look swept across he face as if he remembered something really bad.
"You know when I am upset I always find it easier to talk to a stranger about it."
He thought for a while "Ok, well tonight my ex wife and I got in a fight."
"How did that happen?"
"Well, we still live together so that Frankito would have his mother and father right there, and I was thinking of moving but she wants to stay close to her dying mother."
"Wow. So are you here alone?"
"No" he replied, "I am here with two friends. One went to the bathroom and the other went to go get cigarettes. They should be back soon."
"What do you do for a living?" I asked trying to find out as much as I could about this new acquaintance.
"I play drums in the band-"
"If I know what band you are in then we won't exactly be strangers anymore now will we?" I stopped him in mid sentence to keep the conversation going.

Meanwhile in the back of the bar Mike and Billie Joe had come back and stopped to watch Tre' talking to some mysterious girl.
"Do you know who that is?" asked Mike leaning in so that Billie could hear him.
"I don't know. Hey do you think she likes him?"
"Billie I think our little Tre' is growing up."
Laughing Billie Joe answered "I think you're right."

"I thought you said your friends would be back soon." I giggled because by this point I had had a few drinks.
"Yeah I thought they were" he replied looking startled. Our conversation went on for a little while longer until I noticed my friends leaving.
"Oh damn it I have to go. Bye. Maybe we will see each other again." I said
"Yeah."
I turned to leave.
"Hey you never told me your name." He said looking worried that I would not tell him.
"If you knew my name we wouldn't be strangers anymore now would we?" At that I turned and walked away.

"So who was that?" Billie Joe asked as he and Mike approached their friend.
"I know this might sound weird, but I don't know."
He looked at the doorway just as I turned around to smile and give one last wave.
"Do you like her?" Mike asked but I did not hear him. "Hello! Tre' I asked do you like her?"
"Yeah. I do."
"Then why don't you go get her?" suggested Billie. At that Tre' ran outside only to find that I was nowhere to be seen.
