How I Met Green Day, chapter 1
"Omigod, look," a girl, Danielle, said to her friends as a guy came into the store they were in (Fye). "It's Billie Joe Armstrong!" They all stared at him even though he looked at them, but he seemed used to be stared at so he just looked away and went into the Pop/Rock section, the 3rd section of it to be specific. That was only 2 sections away from the girls. I (one of the girls) starting walking towards the section he was in.
"Wait!" Danielle called out to her as she started walking. Rachel stopped and turned around. "You're not going over there, are you?" I nodded.
"Why not?" I asked.
"I dunno. But it’s Billie Joe!"
"So...? I'm just gonna go over and grab 'American Idiot', and then he'll see that I like his music and I'll talk to him!" I ended the discussion right there, I started walking towards the 3rd section.
I reached the section with Billie Joe Armstrong in it and he was looking a Simple Plan's new CD, behind him was "American Idiot". I squeezed behind Billie Joe and looked at the CD for a while. After I read all of the back, Billie Joe glanced over his shoulder to see what I was doing. He saw my CD and I glanced over my shoulder. When I saw he was looking at me I turned my head back around and just pretended to read the CD.
"So you like Green Day?" he said. I jerked around and saw him standing, in my direction looking at me. I tried to play cool and just talk normal to him, it kind of worked.
"Uh, yeah." I said.
"So do I., he said back. I giggled.
"Your best album is Insomniac, I love Geek Stink Breath."
"You are what age?"
"10."
"And you like Geek Stink Breath, let alone Green Day?" he chuckled. I nodded.
"Cool," he said. "Hey, you know, I don't do this that often but you are the only girl fan who has not ran up to me squealing and screaming for autographs, so would you like to come to the show tonight?"
"Omigod, are you serious?" He nodded. "Sure! Could I hang out backstage?"
He shrugged his shoulders.
"Why not?" I smiled and said, "That'd be great Billie Joe! But, do you have the tickets?"
"No, but you stand at those gates and I'll get you in, I promise." He held out his hand. I shook it and said, "I'll be there if you're there." He nodded. I thanked him and I then I turned around to go and pay for my CD when I saw my friends look at me and wondering what happened so I turned back around and asked him, "Um, my friends are fans, can they come too?"
"As long as they're with you," he said back. I smiled and he did, too. I turned around and went and paid for my CD.
"What did he say?"
"Why were you talking to him?"
"Was he nice?"
"Did you ask him for an autograph?"
"How did you get to shake his hand?"
As I came back to my friends, I was flooded with questions, but I only answer the "What did he say?" question.
"We got free tickets and backstage passes to tonight's concert!!" I said. A wave of "ooh"'s came over my friends.
"Are you serious?" Lauren said. I nodded and headed towards the exit, my friends followed.
"TAXI!" I screamed outside my hotel.
"Omigod, I can't believe we're going," Lucy said.
"I know!" I said. The taxi came and we all jumped in.
"So, are you friends with Billie Joe now?" Alexa asked. I shrugged.
"Uh, I guess. Yeah, I am Billie Joe Armstrong's friend!" I said back. Everyone laughed.
"Oh, driver we're here," Danielle said.
"O.K., that's 4 bucks," the driver said.
"Omigod! There he is!" I said as I shoved a 5 into the driver's hand and jumping out the door before my friends.
"Yeah, he's over there signing autographs," I said as my friends got out and the car drove away. He saw me and called me over. Even though I could barley hear him, he said, "Rachel! Over here!" As he walked away from his fan, he told a big and bulky guy to wait where he was and Billie Joe walked over to me and said,
"Rachel, you're late, show's in 10 min., c'mon!" Me and my friends were petrified that he talked to us, but he did and we followed him to the stage.
"Rachel, do play an instrument?" he asked me when we were on stage before anyone was allowed in there yet. I nodded.
"Guitar," I said.
"Great take this." he handed me an electric guitar and told me to play something. I played Brain Stew and he was apparently blown away as I sang and played.
"Okay, you're coming up here and playing that!" he yelled. "Now get down and enjoy the show." Mike and Tre came on and got ready as me, Danielle, Lauren, Alexa and Lucy got down into the front row, right up against the stage and Billie Joe motioned the crew members at the doors to let everyone in. A wave of screaming fans came piling in and we were pushed up against the stage and As soon as the back doors were shut, Billie Joe screamed out, "DON'T WANNA BE AN AMERICAN IDIOT!" and the crowd went crazy! At the 3rd song, which is now my lucky number because that was the section I talked to him in, he said, "Now we'll be taking a fan up onstage to play 'Brain Stew', give it up for this gal right here!" He was talking about me. I was dazed as he helped me up onstage and gave me a guitar.
"Play it, Rachel," he whispered to me. I did.
"I'm having trouble trying to sleep..." I sang it all and the crowd loved me!
After the show, Tre and Mike helped me and my friends up on stage to go backstage with them while Billie Joe headed to the autograph tables. We waited for all of them on a couch in a room backstage. We were all twitching and giggling.
"Wait!" Danielle called out to her as she started walking. Rachel stopped and turned around. "You're not going over there, are you?" I nodded.
"Why not?" I asked.
