By The Way, chapter 1
They leaned upon the soft summer grass, their backs turned to the world. Two rebels without a cause. Not caring his long, brown drealocks curled along his shoulders, laying on the filthy ground, he locked his gaze into her own. Her chocolate brown stare was looking right back at him, a curly red mane of hair tucked behind her ears. These were the summer nights. The starry lights. The moments that became unforgetable, but sweet, memories.
Cadence reached out abstantly to take Billie Joe's hand into her own. Officially, they'd now been together for five years. And what happy years they had been, too. Even though he'd only reach his 17 in six months, Billie Joe felt a sudden rush of worry. As if time was catching up with him much too quickly, taking his teenage years away from him. But most importantly, taking Cadence far from himself.
So, she'd be moving to Vancouver this fall. Long distance relationship worked for a reason, didn't they? He eyed her profile, taking in a mental picture of the girl he loved. The girl who'd soon be snatched away from his life, the life in which she had been playing such an important role for the last couple of years. But the moment of their separation was still relatively far. He still had enough time to enjoy her presence. To be an idiot and make her laugh all he wanted. Besides, he'd see her again.
Billie Joe was pulled out of his night-time daydream as Cadence sat up, her dyed wine-red hair curled perfectly around her shoulders and went down to her waist. "What's wrong, Caca?" He teased her, knowing how she despised the nickname.
Cadence slapped him, laughing sarcastically as she forced him to sit up next to her. "Nothing." But she'd always lacked the talent of putting together a decent lie and the worry pierced right throught the false confidence she had put in her statement. "Okay, maybe there is something. And don't pretend you don't know what it is."
Billie felt a sinking feeling in his stomach. He had'nt expected their last weeks together to be spent like this, mourning their soon-to-be-long-distance-relationship. He would have thought Cadence and himself would have spent their remaining time together doing the usual stuff. Booze, partying, partying with booze... anyways, you know how it goes.
He stroked his fingers along her own. For a moment, they were perfectly content to simply be together. And, well, the feeling was pretty much couldn't be described. They'd spent five years, growing up together and building everything they had.
And now, it was crumbling down and crushing their hearts to pieces.
