The Dilemma, chapter 1
"Mike, wait up," Lykos called as she ran across the road towards her best friend and true love. Mike turned around and saw her.
"Hey!" he said. "I'm just on my way to Billie Joe's, and he said Amy's there too!"
Lykos smiled. Amy, Billie Joe and Mike were her best friends. They walked quickly the rest of the way to Billie's house, and as they approached they thread a load of shouting.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE GOING TO MIKE'S HOUSE AFTER SCHOOL? DID YOU FORGET THAT YOU'RE GROUNDED?"
Lykos and Mike exchanged looks which translated as oh no, not again.
There was a moments silence, then Billie Joe appeared in the open doorway holding Amy's hand.
"Hurry," he whispered urgently," she'll be down in a minute."
Amy ran over to where her friends were standing. "Hi guys," she whispered, and her and Lykos high five each other. Amy had a secret crush on Billie Joe, and Lykos was the only person she'd told. Seconds later Billie Joe came tearing down the path, and panted," Let's get outta here before she realizes I've gone."
Mike and Billie Joe raced ahead while Amy and Lykos just walked normally.
"So..." said Lykos, "Did you ask Billie Joe out yet?"
"Nope, he doesn't actually know that I fancy him yet..."
"Amy, I thought the whole reason of you sleeping round his house was so you could tell him how you feel about him!"
"It was, but... What if he doesn't feel the same way about me? Then I'd have ruined out friendship as well as fall out with you lot."
"Don't be stupid, we could NEVER be enemies and you know it!"
"I know! I'll ask Billie Joe out after school today if you ask Mike out. Deal?"
Lykos gulped, then grudgingly said "Deal." They shook hands to agree on it, then started to talk about what they'd done over the weekend.
Up ahead, Billie Joe and Mike were having a similar conversation.
"So, Billie Joe, when are you gonna ask Amy out?" asked Mike.
"Um... I dunno," Billie Joe mumbled.
"You should ask her soon, then you'll feel much happier to have got it off your chest."
"Fine, I'll ask her today on the way home from school then... On one condition."
"What's that then Billie?" asked Mike nervously.
"You ask Lykos out today too!"
"Um, maybe that's not the best idea."
"Why not?" Billie inquired icily.
"Well..." Mike started. Come on Mike, just lie, said a tiny voice in his head. I can't admit my real feelings, that I fancy Amy.
"Well?" Billie Joe echoed.
"The truth is... Lykos fancies you!"
"Hey!" he said. "I'm just on my way to Billie Joe's, and he said Amy's there too!"
