Age Is Only A Number!, chapter 15
Katie seemed much happier that week, Abi saw her with Cole and put two and two together but Aaron had no clue. She had couple of lunches with Cole but there first date was coming up that Saturday. Everyone noticed the change in Katie, she had an extra bounce in her step, at work she seemed more enthusiastic to do her work, and it even showed in her clothing, she started wearing lighter clothing with less jumpers and more long sleeved tops.
Abi was personally happy about it; it meant she was at home less watching T.V and eating ice-cream. Aaron was baffled at this change; he didn't know what happened to make it happen all he knew is that she was happier. One day she was working and a flower delivery man came in a put a bouquet of blue tulips, anyone who knew her well knew blue tulips were her favourite. She read the note and it said
"Roses are red
These tulips are blue
This is from me to you
'Cause I love you.
I found out you love them,
And put this poem on paper and pen,
I hope you enjoy,
And no it is not a toy.
Sorry for my bad poem
But I must be a going."
She found it really sweet and couldn't wait till Saturday. She put them on her desk and carried on working. It got time to go home for Katie and she picked up her bag and went. She got to the apartment and went inside and found quite a few post-it's saying various things to do with Katie like 'Wear these earrings tonight' and 'Remember to floss.'
This was definitely the work of Hannah; it was more strangling than caring, although Katie didn't mind today because it did help her with her date. Katie looked at the time and saw it was only 5pm and her date was at 7pm. Katie put her bag down and got herself some juice, she heard the lock turn and saw Dave come in she thought to herself 'Since when did Dave have a key.'
She then decided to ask, "Since when did you have a key?"
"Didn't Abi tell you we made copies of our keys and gave them to each other" Dave answered, she couldn't believe that Abi didn't tell her.
She then had to ask "So why are you here anyway, Abi is at work?"
"Oh I'm here to collect some of her stuff she is staying over for 4 days at mine and don't worry she will be here after your date to gossip" Dave answered, there was this thing about Dave where she couldn't stay mad at him he was too nice.
Katie sighed and let Dave into Abi's room, every now and again she would find him coming out the room with an object and ask about it, each one with a funny story half the time starting with "Me and Abi were totally smashed" or "So one day we were really hyper." All the crazy things Katie and Abi did interested Dave so much.
Dave left leaving Katie on her own again, and just in time she had to get ready for her date. She had a shower and did her hair; she even waxed her own legs for a change. She got changed, put her make-up on and tried to put her shoes on, all this just for one date but it was all worth it. She barely had a date since uni and she wasn't gonna make a mistake. All she did now was wait for the buzzer for her to come down. She started to carry on her book 'Memoirs of a Geisha' while waiting. She heard the buzzer go and answered it "Hey Cole."
"Hey Katie" Cole answered
"I'll be coming down in a second" Katie told him. She put her book down and got her beg and went downstairs. She went up to Cole and took his hand, he had on a 'Foo Fighters' t-shirt, a blue striped shirt with a leather jacket on top. He looked at Katie and thought she was stunning; just to be near her gave him the goose bumps. She had on a pale pink shoulder-less dress with black stripe on the edgings and a black ribbon tied around her waist and tied at the back, the front of her hair was clipped in a small quiff, her eyes were smoky and her cheeks with a hint of blusher.
Katie smiled and asked "What are you smiling at mister?" she then gave Cole a mischievous smile and tugged his arm. They walked to his car and he opened the door for her and she got in. Cole at that point couldn't believe his luck.
Cole drove them to the restaurant, it was an Italian restaurant and it even looked like it was from Italy. They had a table in the corner secluded for the bustle of the restaurant, it was perfect. They got along so well they just clicked somehow. "So you have a 5 year age gap between you and your next sibling what happened there?" Cole asked.
"My parents had a miscarriage between me and Annie, then they had Harry, it's kinda weird at times when there stuck at high school me and Jake have been working for a while now, do you have any brothers and sisters?"
"I have a little sister, but my family foster children every now and again so I have quite a big family when it comes down to it." Cole answered; Katie just couldn't believe that she found such a perfect guy. They talked about so much; time seemed to stop around them while they were together.
They finished and Cole paid for the dinner, they went out and started walking around, they saw the streets at night, the beauty, the intensity, the ecstasy made them so alive with passion. They were walking down a street holding hands; Katie was looking up at the stars themselves while Cole was staring at Katie. She turned her head to see Cole looking at her and said "What are you looking at cheeky?"
"Easy, you" Cole answered; he then whispered into her ear "I've got a little surprise for you."
Katie wondered what it was but didn't question. Cole held her hand up and kissed it and covered her eyes, she didn't know where she was going or what it would involve all she knew is that she didn't want the evening to end.
Cole took his hand off her face and she saw a warehouse of some kind and Cole said "Don't judge a book by its cover"
They went inside and there was a small stage with candles surrounding the room and there was a faint sound of guitar in the background, Cole went up to the stage and picked up the microphone. A guy came out the backdrop playing the guitar, she recognised the guitar player as Aaron, then came a bass player recognised as Abi, then a guy came out with drumsticks and started playing the drums, Katie squinted and saw it was Dave.
Cole then put the microphone to his mouth and said "I'm not much of a singer but I found out that this was one of your favourite songs"
Cole then started singing "Mama, take this badge off of me, I can't use it anymore. It's gettin' dark, too dark for me to see I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door."
It was really sweet and Katie couldn't help smile, she hadn't felt like this in a while.
Cole then carried on singing "Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door, knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door."
She couldn't believe that Cole got Abi, Aaron and Dave to help out it was so sweet of them. "Mama, wipe the blood from my face, I'm sick and tired of the war, Got that old black feeling and it's out to trace, Feels like I'm knocking on heaven's door." Katie swayed to the beat; it was one of her favourite songs. Abi saw Katie smile and she smiled as well, it had been a while since Abi had seen Katie smile like that, and it was a happy one.
The song ended and Cole then said into the microphone "Now if you thought that was it you were wrong, I've got a couple of others that I know you'll like."
Cole signalled to Abi, Aaron and Dave and they started to play Smashing Pumpkins Today, Cole looked back at Katie and sung "Today is the greatest day I've ever known, Can't wait for tomorrow, Tomorrow's much too long."
Katie said to Cole once that she adored Smashing Pumpkins; she didn't think that he remembered. She looked at Cole's eyes, the intensity as he sung the song was deep. Cole looked at Katie, she was a shining beauty, and he couldn't believe it when she told him she hadn't had a boyfriend in a while. Cole ended the song and got down off the stage; he went up to Katie and hugged her.
They let go and Katie said "Thank you so much for this wonderful evening, it won't be forgotten." Cole looked at Katie and started kissing her, as there kiss deepened Katie heard Dave going "Woop woop get in there" and decided to stop. She looked at the guys, and said
"Thank you also for the awesome playing, it was superiorly nice." Aaron smiled and Abi gave her a wink as to say 'You're giving me the details later' Katie winked back and mouthed 'Thank you' to the guys and turned round and walked off with Cole hand in hand.
The guys were putting everything away, Aaron was retuning his guitar to its case when Abi said "I just noticed, Katie does so much for us and yet we barely ever do anything for Katie, does that mean we take her for granted." Dave went up to Abi and hugged her and said "Of course not, she is a very caring person and so are you." Aaron then realised something and asked "Abi do you think I should tell Katie?" Abi knew what Aaron was talking about and knew it was a bad idea telling Katie.
She then replied "No way she will freak and it will end badly."
"Yes but if we don't tell her soon enough then the trouble will start" Aaron told Abi, Dave was yet to know the secret and asked his fiancée "Honey what is this little secret your not telling me?"
"Nothing, I'll tell you later" Abi told Dave, he sighed and rolled his eyes. Abi just looked at him with that look that made him fall in love with her. Abi went up to Dave and kissed him on the cheek and returned to putting her bass in its case.
Katie and Cole were walking to his place; they were holding hands embracing the night before them, the sweet serenity of the sky made Katie smile. Cole looked at her and asked "So do you wanna come back to my place for some coffee?"
"Coffee would be nice" Katie answered and kissed him on the cheek, she carried on looking at the sky while Cole put his hand to his cheek. It felt so sexy how she was conservative that a simple kiss on the cheek felt sexy.
They got to his place and Cole opened the door, they went inside and Cole flicked on the lights. Katie thought it was amazing, it wasn't the tidiest place ever but she hated neat freaks. She looked around, there was a guitar in the corner and music sheets scattered around with a couple of CD's in the mix, she also saw a range of English books, and patient reports.
Katie sat down at the table in the kitchen area while Cole fixed her up some coffee. Katie saw that Cole had roommates also and hoped they weren't as insane as her roommates were. Cole served Katie and himself coffee in cute "Best Brother" mugs. Katie then asked Cole "So you have roommates?"
"Ye, Kevin is in a band and Richard is an English teacher in middle school" Cole answered. Katie put her coffee cup on the table and Cole put his hand on there face and they started launching into a kiss.
They stood up still kissing and went across the room occasionally bumping into something; they went into Cole's room and fell onto the bed. They carried on kissing as Katie pulled Cole's top off, and at that point Cole noticed what was about to happen and pulled away from Katie
"Sorry, I just ca-" and as soon as Cole said that Katie interrupted and sat up asking "Are you a virgin, shit I should've asked, I am so sorry I feel like a bitch." Cole smiled and a small laugh came out as he put his top back on and said "No, I'm not an angel but I don't believe in sex on the first date it's kinda sleazy."
"Don't worry, I don't really either, just the adrenaline got the better of me" Katie replied, she blushed and stood up. Cole hugged her and said "Don't worry about it" he held her by her arms and asked "Look it's late, wanna stay over here." Katie smiled nodding her head and Cole kissed her on the forehead.
Cole gave Katie a shirt for night-wear; she went into the bathroom and changed into it. She came outside and did a little twirl for Cole; Cole's heart skipped a beat just seeing Katie.
She was so sexy and yet so cute at the same time.
Cole got changed into a simple white t-shirt and some pyjama bottoms, he forgot to close the door and Katie had a sneak preview of Cole only in his boxers. She smiled while looking through the side of the door.
Cole noticed she had been there the whole time and went up to her and picked her up and carried her to the bed. He laid her down and kissed her softly on the lips. Katie got herself comfy as Cole got in. He put her arms round her and they started sleeping. Cole opened his eyes and saw Katie sleeping; he looked at her so perfect and serene and kissed her on the cheek, she twitched her nose a bit and carried on sleeping.
Cole woke up and saw Katie by his side; he smiled and got out of bed. He left Katie on her own; he didn't have the heart to wake her up. He went into his kitchen and saw a guy with floppy light brown hair and a pair of brown eyes that could melt you heart, with a 'Red Hot Chili Peppers' t-shirt with Union Jack boxers on which was evidently Cole's room mate Richard with a coffee and newspaper in his hand.
Cole made himself some coffee and Richard said "So I see you had a good night, no sex and your even waking up early I pity you"
"What time is it?" Cole asked
"8am" Richard answered raising his eyebrows, Cole drunk his coffee and gave Richard a piece of his mind.
Katie woke up and saw Cole wasn't there; she got up and stumbled into the kitchen. Her hair was all over the place in a cute way. She went up to Cole and hugged him, Cole then said to Richard "Richard meet my girlfriend Katie, Katie this is my eccentric room mate Richard."
Richard was gob smacked, not only had Cole finally got a girl friend but she was as hot as ever. "You can call me Rick" Rick told Katie holding out his hand, Katie shook his hand and smiled.
Katie looked at the clock and realised that if she didn't move that second she would be late for work. "Cole can I borrow some jeans or something cos right now I am late for work?" Katie asked.
"Sure, my jeans would be too big but I think Rick's might fit" Cole answered; Rick nodded and went into his room and got some jeans. Katie quickly put them on and got her shoes on. She ran past Cole and kissed him on the cheek and went out the door.
"Your are one lucky bastard you know that" Rick told Cole.
"Yes, Yes I am" Cole replied smiling.
Katie got to her apartment quickly; she basically got her bag and rushed to work. She looked like a complete mess, her hair was messy and all over the place, Cole's shirt came up to her knees, she had on neat black shoes, and to top it all off she had piles of work to do and was already late.
She got on the bus and sat down and listened to Bob Dylan and concentrated on the day ahead of her. She got into work and her work-friend Alice saw her, she went up to Katie and asked "So someone got laid last night?"
Katie just smiled and answered "Not exactly, but I got other things on my mind" pointing to her clothes. Alice thought for a second and said "Don't worry come with me." Alice tugged on Katie's arm and she followed Alice.
Alice got her into the toilets and said "Your lucky I have two tops on, put my white t-shirt on under the shirt" and Alice took her t-shirt off from under her other top and gave it to Katie. Katie put it on and took her shirt off, she then put the shirt over the top and tied it round the waist. "There, you now look good, I think we'll give the hair a miss though, looks good though with the outfit."
She went home after work and saw Abi at home working. She sat down next to Abi and hugged her; Abi saw Katie and said "Oh my God how was it?"
"It was great, the best date in a while oh ye and thank you for the wonderful performance" Katie replied.
"So... you're gonna tell me all the details right" Abi asked excitedly.
Katie smiled and said "Sure" Katie answered, she started saying everything that happened.
Little did she know a text came on her cell saying 'Hey Katie I'm coming to New York for a few days might visit you, Mike.'

Katie got to her apartment quickly; she basically got her bag and rushed to work. She looked like a complete mess, her hair was messy and all over the place, Cole's shirt came up to her knees, she had on neat black shoes, and to top it all off she had piles of work to do and was already late.
She got on the bus and sat down and listened to Bob Dylan and concentrated on the day ahead of her. She got into work and her work-friend Alice saw her, she went up to Katie and asked "So someone got laid last night?"
Katie just smiled and answered "Not exactly, but I got other things on my mind" pointing to her clothes. Alice thought for a second and said "Don't worry come with me." Alice tugged on Katie's arm and she followed Alice.
Alice got her into the toilets and said "Your lucky I have two tops on, put my white t-shirt on under the shirt" and Alice took her t-shirt off from under her other top and gave it to Katie. Katie put it on and took her shirt off, she then put the shirt over the top and tied it round the waist. "There, you now look good, I think we'll give the hair a miss though, looks good though with the outfit."
She went home after work and saw Abi at home working. She sat down next to Abi and hugged her; Abi saw Katie and said "Oh my God how was it?"
"It was great, the best date in a while oh ye and thank you for the wonderful performance" Katie replied.
"So... you're gonna tell me all the details right" Abi asked excitedly.
Katie smiled and said "Sure" Katie answered, she started saying everything that happened.
Little did she know a text came on her cell saying 'Hey Katie I'm coming to New York for a few days might visit you, Mike.'
