Age Is Only A Number!, chapter 3
While Mike was hugging Katie he thought to himself 'Hey maybe this girl isn't so bad' she stopped crying and looked up at Mike, he had a smile on his face and said to her "Everything will be alright trust me"
"It won't my grades are going down by the second and nearly everyone is making fun of me for having a boy as a best friend and vice versa" Katie told Mike, Mike pushed back her long black hair and smiled at her and said "It'll be fine trust me your a great girl and there just jealous because they can't be friends with the opposite sex"
"Then why do you 99 percent of the time act like I'm small and insignificant" Katie asked letting go of Mike and sitting against the wall next to her bed
"I was in the wrong, I'd love to hang out with you and maybe even Aaron" Mike replied.
Katie smiled and Mike wiped the tears off her face. Mike then picked up Katie's homework diary and flicked through and had a look through and found a couple of pictures, one of a manga person and another of a window with a view outside, he saw in the corner there was a signature, he saw that it was by Katie, his face was in shock, how could a 15 year old girl do something that good. Katie saw he was looking at her pictures and said "Why the shocked face you've known for years I've been good at art?"
"I guess but still its great" Mike replied
"The window is the view from my History classroom, my teacher couldn't give shit if I was wrestling a bear, I did it one day put it in my homework diary and every time someone takes it they look and say its good" Katie explained to Mike
"Look I have to go, tomorrows Saturday and the guys are practicing at my place wanna come over and listen" Mike suggested
"Sure I'll come" Katie said
Mike went out the room and Katie cleared herself up and was much happier than she was to start with, she thought to bring one of her friends, she then realised again that she needed more girls for friends instead of wanting to kick half of them. Her only girl-friend was Abigail, they had known eachother there whole lives and did everything together, went to school, shopped, learnt instruments together eventually having to do separate instruments because the teacher hated having both havoc-makers as students, and they bitched together on a regular basis. They were nearly complete opposites, while Katie is the artsy student that loves art music and English Literature, Abi was a straight-forwards student that loves science, maths, and politics but Katie dabbled in politics aswell. So it was obvious for Katie to ask Abi to come with her to Green Day practicing. While she was phoning Abi, Mike was going back to his house, he was just thinking about what he said to Katie through his head and kinda felt stupid inviting her to the practice but knew it was the right thing to do.
The next day Mike went down to the garage for practice and found Katie there sitting on an amp with her friend Abi. He regretted inviting her but he just sucked it up and went with it. Billie Joe and Tre grinned at him guessing what had happened. Mike flipped both of them off and picked up his bass and put the lead into the amp the girls were sitting on, Katie whispered "Hi" to Mike and he just smiled back. Mike noticed there clothing, Katie was wearing a simple t-shirt with 'Nirvana' on it and some tatty over-worn jeans with some trainers that looked like they had been through war, and Abi was wearing a grey y-shirt with cleaner jeans and cleaner trainers than Katie. They were playing 'No one Knows' when Mike noticed that they were like twins, both had long black hair and both wore a t-shirt and jeans, both had braces of some sort, the only difference was that Abi was more neat and tidier than Katie, it scared the fuck out of Mike.
After practice Abi and Katie stuck around, Mike told his band-mates about what he saw earlier and they looked at Abi and Katie talking to eachother and it was scaringly true. They unplugged everything and Billie Joe and Tre were just talking and Mike was putting his bass away. Abi nudged Katie and Katie stood up and went over to Mike.
"Hey Mike" Katie said
"Hey Katie" Mike replied
"Awesome playing today, it was so cool" Katie exclaimed arms behind her back and her hands fidgeting like hell
"Thanks, its great that you could come" Mike said standing up and putting his bass down
"I was just thinking maybe you and I could go out" Katie started
"Like hanging sure maybe if I have some spare time" Mike answered quickly before she could say the word he dreaded her to say
"No, not hanging out like on a date" Katie replied and there was the word that Mike hated her to say, he just didn't want to go out with her on a date, she was way too immature and annoying some of the time. Mike stayed silent for a moment anger building up and then answered "Look I didn't want it to come down to this but no I don't want to go out with you"
"But, but-why" Katie sqeauled, eyes widening
"Your way too young and immature, you deserve someone your own age, your going home" Mike argued deja vous happened and he got hold of her arm and dragged her out again
"Get off my arm it hurts" Abi screeched
"No, you have got to learn" Mike told her dragging her, Abi, Billie Joe and Tre decided not to get into this in any way possible
"Get off me please my arm is aching" Katie cried out trying to break free from Mike's grip
"No, you have to have a boyfriend your own age theres way too much of an age difference and I have to go on tour in a couple of days" Mike replied pulling Katie to his front by then she was on thje verge of crying, Mike thought it was because he turned her down that was only a tiny bit why she knew she was near to crying because her arm was aching with pain and she was about to faint with pain
"Okay, just please get off my arm I feel like its going to drop off" Katie answered then Mike noticed where all his anger went to, he was gripping Katies arm extremly hard and that was the reason she was crying, he let go and even his hand hurt from grabbing so hard, Abi went up to Katie and put her shoulder round her best friend and they went back to Katie's house. Mike felt a tinge of guilt but it was just the right thing to do, he saw the guys shocked faces and he just said simply "What?", neither guy knew what to say, Tre decided to break the ice by saying to Mike "What the fuck?"
"Look it had to be done, lets just get on with our lives" Mike answered
Abi and Katie went to her house and went up to her room, Abi lended a hand to Katie by hugging her and trying to make her feel better. They noticed that people would ask about the red hand mark on her arm so they bandaged it up and made a story that she banged it hard and it needed a bandage around it, they were sure few were going to believe it but they didn't give a pluck. Abi went home after a while and Katie just sat there thinking about what happened. How she was so stupid to think that would work, how stupid to even think that a 20 year old would be with a 15 year old, how stupid to think that it was okay to fancy someone 5 years older than you, how stupid to even think about it.
It was then Katie vowed never to let a man destroy her like that.
